On the brink of a federal government shutdown, the House on Saturday swiftly approved a 45-day funding bill to keep federal agencies open as Speaker Kevin McCarthy dropped demands for steep spending cuts and relied on Democratic votes for passage to send the package to the Senate.
The new approach would leave behind aid to Ukraine, a White House priority opposed by a growing number of GOP lawmakers, but the plan would increase federal disaster assistance by $16 billion, meeting President Joe Biden’s full request. The package was approved 335-91, with most Republicans and almost all Democrats supporting. the bill.
With hours to go before the midnight deadline to fund the government, the Senate was also in for a rare weekend session and prepared to act next.

As a moderate conservative, I applaud this vote. This is a victory against the extremists.
Totally agree
NO, NO MORE OF THAT, I DON’T CARE WHAT IT TAKES. THIS HAS TO BE HAD OUT NOW. Giv3 a little here, give a little theiet over 90 years, and now we are knee deep in marxism. THE BUZZ SAW must be taken to them.
Ibtz
Last time only men voted we elected Woodrow Wilson twice. The guy with the federal reserve, the income tax, and World War One.
Not our finest moment.
True. The funny thing is that the South voted overwhelmingly for Wulson and FDR, and New England was the place whete he did the worst. Interesting how patterns change.
DeSantis has nothing to do with the Bushes. In fact, in his book, he makes it clear he does not agree with the Bush doctrine, especially on foreign policy. All the Trumpsters have to support their attempted smear of DeSantis is a picture of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush standing in attendance at the swearing in of DeSantis as the new Governor, which is simply tradition.
And Jeb Bush is to the right of Trump on many issues, anyway. People trying to put the Bushes down as if Trump is some sort of conservative idol in comparison are ridiculous. They’re at least equal on the RINO scale, if not Trump being worse, based on his support of things like trannies, gay marriage, authoritarian government, gun control, and the full WEF agenda.
They surrendered in their very first battle? Surrender monkeys.
They surrendered in their very first battle? Surrender monkeys.
One can only surrender when they’re on the opposing side.
Yeah the real tell here is how Cowardly Kevin didn’t even try to fight for border security, by far most important part of the budget bill. He surrendered the single most desperately needed part of the continuing resolution right at the start, didn’t even try to negotiate it with the Demonrats.
And that’s because for all Mccarthy tries to whine and cry about how the meanie Democrats are bullying him, deep down he doesn’t want border security either. He and the other RINO traitors like Marco Rubio, Nikki Haley and Grahamnesty are too happy being paid off by all those sweet bribes from the Chamber of Commerce, Gates and Soros and rest of the cheap labor lobby. So he used the Demonrats as an excuse for failing completely on the border, yet again after the debt ceiling surrendering, when in fact it’s him and the other RINO’s who are blocking border security. Even at this crisis time when the cartels, criminals and fentanyl pushers are literally pouring across the border by the thousands, every single day.
Kevin Mccarthy is a traitor and he needs to be removed, now. Republicans in the House, do your job and start the process to remove him as Speaker, right now, the very thing you fought so hard for at start of this session. The only tiny consolation is even if this treason bill does go through, we’ll be back in a month to negotiate a real budget and we can’t have Cowardly Kevin leading and undermining us from inside anymore.
And Senate Republicans, do your job and filibuster this pathetic continuing resolution before it even gets passed, and demand that it includes actual border security and the other main demands of the original House bill before Cowardly Kevin gutted it and turned against his own base. In this form we get nothing, absolutely nothing. If the GOP surrenders yet again on something so fundamental, at such a critical time and fails to fight hard to protect our border and communities, then they’re simply not worth donating or voting for anymore, and need to be replaced by a real conservative party. No more excuses for this pathetic surrender and failure.
Nothing gained at all. A complete surrender by Mccarthy to the Demonrats and the cheap labor lobby, the real master’s paying his bribes. It was bad enough when Cowardly Kevin and the other RINO’s back-stabbed us on the debt ceiling when we were the ones with the strong position. Just giving away the farm. But now the US is being actively invaded, and criminals, fentanyl and meth are flooding in. An active invasion and he does nothing. Not one single dollar for border security.
House GOP, do your job and start the process now to remove Kevin from the Speaker post. And Senate Republicans, do your job and filibuster this surrender bill until we get real, strong actual border security. If you don’t, there will be no reason to support a feckless Republican party that won’t even lift a finger to defend our country, and it won’t get the vote or support of a single true conservative.
That’s a fact. The perfect chump.
Republican party that won’t even lift a finger to defend our country, and it won’t get the vote or support of a single true conservative.
Lets hope everyone remembers that or we stay in the rut.
The bill that failed on Friday “included vastly reduced stopgap funding for the government as well as severe immigration restrictions,” per the New York Times. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/09/29/us/politics/government-shutdown-mccarthy-votes.html
That one failed because all the Democrats voted against it. This one (without the spending cuts and without the immigration provisions) passed because all the Democrats except one voted for it.
“Demographics is destiny.”
Very true. Something I repeatedly try to point out here and elsewhere, and it is the 64 trillion ton elephant in the corner of the room that most refuse to acknowledge because they are scared to death of being called “racists” even though the reality of it is statistically proven the truth election cycle after election cycle after election cycle.
Put bluntly, civic nationalism is nothing but a pie in the sky myth that is not now, never has been, and likely never will be a reality.
As far as North Brazil.........I fear something much worse.......more like post-Rhodesia Zimbabwe and it’s 1980 all over again.
Lock & load
You still do not understand Trump, do you!
He is not a neocon conservative. Most Republicans are.
Trump’s goal is to create better life for ordinary working class Americans. That makes most Americans Great again.
In 45 days look for another continuing resolution, etc., etc., until national collapse and a worthless dollar.
The House, McCarthy, and all should propose an end to the Ukraine war that is very simple.
Pass legislation that takes all regulations off Fossil fuel.
The price of fuel drops to Trump era levels. No longer would Biden be financing Putin’s war with high prices for Putin’s oil and gas.
Make it bi-partisan if you wish. Let Biden flip flop (like politicians do) and take credit for low prices at the pump.
Both Americans and the world wins. That is what we should be for.
Let crazy left campaign for higher prices, more inflation. The voters would be educated.
O good.. this always triggers the grandma can’t buy Christmas train on every channel.
This was intentional kabuki by McCarthy.
“This was intentional kabuki by McCarthy.”
I’m not clear on what you mean here. Do you think that McCarthy always intended to cave, but planned it out to make it look as if he were trying to do everything possible to work with the Freedom Caucus?
If that’s your meaning, I disagree. I don’t think McCarthy plans at that level. He just tries to bumble through each day. He’s not smart enough to engineer intentional kabuki.
