September 28

Tend Your Garden

Bible in a Year:

Catch for us the foxes . . . that ruin the vineyards.

Song of Songs 2:15

I was so excited to plant our backyard fruit and veggie garden. Then I started to notice small holes in the dirt. Before it had time to ripen, our first fruit mysteriously disappeared. One day I was dismayed to find our largest strawberry plant had been completely uprooted by a nesting rabbit and scorched to a crisp by the sun. I wished I’d paid closer attention to the warning signs!

The beautiful love poem in Song of Songs records a conversation between a young man and woman. While calling to his darling, the man sternly warned against animals who would tear apart the lovers’ garden, a metaphor for their relationship. “Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards,” he said (Song of Songs 2:15). Perhaps he saw hints of “foxes” that could ruin their romance, like jealousy, anger, deceit, or apathy. Because he delighted in the beauty of his bride (v. 14), he wouldn’t tolerate the presence of anything unwholesome. She was as precious as “a lily among thorns” to him (v. 2). He was willing to put in the work to guard their relationship.

Some of God’s most precious gifts to us are family and friends, although those relationships aren’t always easy to maintain. With patience, care, and protection from “the little foxes,” we trust that God will grow beautiful fruit. .

Reflect & Pray

Where have you become complacent in a close relationship? What foxes are you tolerating?

Jesus, thank You for loving me so well.

Creek is running CLEAR...never even turned a hint of brown through nearly 2 3/4 inches from Ophelia. Lingering showers and dampness finally left today.

Hey there, Kathy.

I saw that you have some sunshine today. Had some yesterday too. Still no Lake Hood cam but Rust’s Flying Service has a cam set up. It doesn’t stream but it changes every 30 seconds. Good enough to be able to see what kind of weather you have, and I can see those beautiful mountains again.

All the mowing is done and I hoped it would make it rain, but no dice. It rained ALL AROUND me but not a drop at the farm. grrrrrr!

But it’s a good night. Survivor and Amazing Race both start their new seasons tonight! I love both shows. LOL

Hi radu...hump day was not a fun day, but I managed to survive. Corrections keep rolling in.

Just came in from sweeping yet another load of leaves off the deck. And lo and behold...3 ducks, 2 girls and one boy, walked right up to the deck.

I haven’t seen a single duck for more than a month!

Dang those corrections! If they’d just send the correct info to begin with, you wouldn’t be stuck with those every week. Good luck with them! And don’t forget “I don’t care” mode. LOL

So the ducks are starting to filter back, are they? The food wherever they’ve been must be running low what with it getting colder. Not that it’s been all that warm this summer.
These three are obviously long-time regulars. “Hi, Mom, we’re home!” LOL

Glad you can at least see some weather pics. LOTS of golden leaves, and more each day.

I woke up in the night and needed my heavier blankie. I think the summer one is just about done. It was 32 on my porch in the night.

Enjoy no mowing and your new shows.

Very nice about the amount of rain you got...and your creek must be quite happy to be running clear.
