The Supreme Court on Tuesday handed a defeat to Alabama Republicans for the second time in three months, rejecting their latest attempt to use a congressional map that includes only one majority-Black district.
The court in two related applications refused emergency requests from Republican state officials to block lower court rulings that invalidated the new map. Lower court proceedings to approve a new map are still ongoing.
The decision was in line with the Supreme Court ruling against the state in June that reaffirmed a key provision of the landmark Voting Rights Act. There were no noted dissenting votes and the court did not explain its reasoning.

Alabama is 12.4% black according to the 2020 census.
Alabama has 7 House seats, again according to the 2020 census.
12.4% of 7 is 0.868 ---> 1 majority black district, not 2.
This basically guarantees the loss of 1 GOP seat in the House next time ‘round.
Redrawing congressional maps to make an equal amount of "majority black"
to majority white will make for some contorted, maybe circular maps.
Racism is "good" when it favors negroes.

Challenge the constitutionality of the voting rights act
Create the black districts and include as many liberals as possible in each. It will make the rest of the districts more conservative and less welcoming to RINOs.
I see no reason why Alabama should have any "majority black districts". I see no reason why anyone should pay any attention to the racial makeup of a congressional district. Discriminating on the basis of race is illegal.

The figure I just saw says that 26% of the state’s population is black. Knowing that blacks hugely vote for Rats it could be argued that two of state’s seven seats should be Rat.Today one district is Rat.

Redistricting now basically IS gerrymandering and has become entirely a political tool. It’s all about moving the district boundaries to get the most politically favorable population.
What about politicians actually trying to attract people to vote for them and their policies and doing this by improving their districts, getting more voter participation, etc.? But it’s much easier just to seek out areas where you can pretty much count on people’s votes, no matter what you do or fail to do.

So according to the Supremes, it’s ok to discriminate based on race to draw congressional districts? Hmmm now that is an interesting read of the Constitution. Exactly how is that different from racial quotas in hiring and college admissions, which I believe they just struck down as unconstitutional didn’t they? Hope some of you constitutional scholars weigh in on this one !!

Black population in AL is at 26.8% according to the Census Bureau.
