Alabama is 12.4% black according to the 2020 census.
Alabama has 7 House seats, again according to the 2020 census.
12.4% of 7 is 0.868 ---> 1 majority black district, not 2.
I see no reason why Alabama should have any "majority black districts". I see no reason why anyone should pay any attention to the racial makeup of a congressional district. Discriminating on the basis of race is illegal.
Alabama is actually about 26% black. You may have been looking at the US demographics on that page.
I just saw 26% as the figure. Big difference.I’d be more inclined to believe the Census Bureau.
Black population in AL is at 26.8% according to the Census Bureau.

That’s way off. Blacks are over 26 percent of the state.
Yep
Nope. I’m a native Alabamian- Huntsville area (northern Alabama). The black population of Alabama is 26% + or -. The 12.4% figure you mentioned is their percentage of the whole population of the United States of America collectively. With just the state of Alabama, they make up 26%. It’s usually a good measure in the deep south that blacks, on average, make up at least a quarter to a third of state populations in the region. I believe Mississippi, Louisiana & Georgia’s black populations are even larger percentages of those states.
Having said all of that, I think this ruling is appalling. It’s particularly absurd if you believe ghat race-based laws are unconstitutional or inherently inappropriate. The U.S. & state & local government should be concerned with only two statistics: what percentage of our population are legal American citizens (born on American soil to legal American citizens; and naturalized immigrant citizens who legally immigrated, passed all tests, followed all procedures & finally swore an oath of loyalty to this nation). Those that fall into those categories are entitled to be here; everybody else needs to get the hell out, shouldn’t be 4eceiving anything from government, shouldn’t be working an American job, living in an American home, driving a car with an American license & sure as fire shouldn’t be voting in any American federal, state or local election! 😉
Re: Alabama is 12.4% black
Actually, 26.8% are Black.

You misread the site you linked. The 12.4% black was the NATIONAL number.
If you enter “Alabama” and “Black or African American alone” below the result which you’ll see will actually be 25.8%. So in point of fact blacks are under-represented by 50%.
Do you agree?
