In the past few days, Democrats have secured majority control of the Pennsylvania House and moved within one seat of ending Republican control of the New Hampshire House. Those wins are not aberrations. They are the latest measures of a nationwide blue wave that has seen Democrats outperform expectations in 24 of 30 special elections for open state legislative seats this year. Legislative contests that were once considered local or regional races are being nationalized, as concerns about abortion rights and voting rights—two issues that are up for grabs in statehouses—are putting Republican candidates in a perilous position.

The numbers back up Williams’s assessment. On average, according to a fresh assessment by the data crunchers at FiveThirtyEight, Democrats are finishing 11 points better than the historic voting patterns of their districts would have predicted. This is the normal outcome of two generations of American women being indoctrinated that the ability to murder their unborn children is their most sacred right.

Also worth noting that both PA and NH Republicans are often indistinguishable from Democrats in terms of policies. They’re basically Democrat Lite. People are going to choose the non-Lite version of something in general, so this is a stupid strategy.

Oh my gosh. Why not just get republicans to vote? That’d be a better way to win. This New Hampshire loss in a red district is most disappointing. Since 2016, we haven’t won much. There are reasons beyond fraud. Unfortunately, that’s the excuse that seems to resonate which doesn’t get to the core problem. We better figure it out or we’ll have nothing.
I guess John Roberts on the SCOTUS was right. I think he made an argument for the court to move slower on the Roe vs Wade issue. Instead of overhauling it completely, each state could ban late term abortions but otherwise we'll keep Roe vs Wade in place.
It was a mistake to overturn Roe vs Wade, as simple as that.
