WTF? The other pilot had no problem in the other jet.

It’s not like I know anything about the military or piloting fighter jets, but this doesn’t sound good. OTOH, is he good about using the right pronouns?

We are not getting the full story here. But I bet it isn’t flattering to the Air Force.

The entire first paragraph is BS. He didn’t eject because of weather. His job, once he punches is to take care of himself, not track where the airplane goes down. The crash survivable flight data recorder in the aircraft should be sending pings as to its location.
To: dynachrome
I have trouble understanding what the "malfunction" might have been, given that the plane flew another 60 miles before crashing....even after its profile was compromised following canopy ejection....???
In 6 months we'll likely see reference to "pilot error"....

Someone said the other day that it was probably a woman pilot and the check engine light came on! Bail! Bail now!
She could have just done what I do. Put a piece of black electrical tape over the light so it will not bother you.
Problem solved!
It’s much like turning up the radio if a weird sound is coming from beneath the hood while driving. If you can’t hear it, then it is not a problem.

Aren’t these the planes that can’t be flown in bad weather because they can’t handle a lightning strike?

What sort of bad weather? Like this?
OTOH, they have C-130's storm chasing a/c going into hurricanes. A 100 million fighter can't?

One suspects that there might be much more to the story.
Ejecting due to bad weather?
Lots of pilots fly successfully (in less capable aircraft) in very "bad weather", as a common and manageable occurrence.
I include myself here.
The tracking part of the story is a minor secondary, the big question is why the pilot ejected.
One suspects that there might be much more to the story.
