Trump said members of his own party "speak very inarticulately about this subject.
"I watch some of them without the exceptions, et cetera, et cetera," he said, referring to conservatives who don't support abortion exceptions in cases including abortion and rape. "I said, 'Other than certain parts of the country, you can’t — you’re not going to win on this issue. But you will win on this issue when you come up with the right number of weeks."
"Because Democrats don’t want to be radical on the issue, most of them, some do," he continued. "They don’t want to be radical on the issue. They don’t want to kill a baby in the seventh month or the ninth month or after birth. And they’re allowed to do that, and you can’t do that."
In his interview, Trump said "people are starting to think of 15 weeks" as "a number that people are talking about right now" in terms of a federal abortion ban, but said he wouldn't sign such legislation as president.
"No, no," he replied.
He went on to call a six-week ban signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, one of his rivals, "a terrible thing and a terrible mistake."
Trump claimed "the most powerful people that are anti-abortion are okay with" not having a complete and total ban.

—> Trump took all the credit for the Supreme Court Ruling back when and now he is slithering back
Trumps statement is entirely consistent with states rights and political reality.
I wonder what Trump REALLY said.
The lamestream media has poor record of telling the whole truth.
Sorry, but those advocating the killing of other people just because they made a mistake is extremely radical.
After 18 years, black men should be freed from slavery. Or let’s vote to enslave MAGA people. I’m sure there are a majority of votes for that!
Democracy, those people that elected Biden and Clinton and Obama....democracy should decide who deserves to live free, not God.
What would Ron DeSanctimonious do?
Oh, that’s right, he still allows for Abortions, just a couple of days fewer on the life of the fetus@
Freakin’ hypocrites!
It would be a slam dunk against Biden with several of the GOP primary contenders. And any one of those would have coattails. Trump will lose to Biden again and all we’ll hear is hand wringing about how the election was stolen. Bunk. I just hope and pray that the people’s eyes will be opened before it is too late.
“Trumps statement is entirely consistent with states rights and political reality.”
Trump said that he would negotiate with Democrats on the issue. Explain how - if it’s a state’s rights issue - Trump would have any seat at the negotiation table. Does he not understand the definition of state’s rights?
They have their bases covered. When Trump loses it will either be A) “We was robbed.” or B) Rob DeSanctimonious horded all the campaign donations that should have rightfully gone to poor Donald.
Either people have control of their own lives or they don't, and Trump is correct in his assessment. There are one issue voters, whether it be the abortion crowd, or those that yell about some 2nd Amendment Right. Either way, a free society, by default would have elements that some don't like/agree with.
The State level is where it should be decided.
We don’t need late term abortion up to and including terminating the baby after being born alive. Can we start here? Only a few countries allow this. Why US?
>>”Kamala Harris said the other day, that Roe vs. Wade could be reinstated legislatively, through Congress. If efforts for that happen, then you are looking at federal legislation, and not just state by state.”
It’s always possible Congress could get involved and start passing legislation on the issue - one way the other. But that would still be a lot easier to undo than a Supreme Court decision. As recent history has shown, a Supreme Court decision is much harder and takes much longer to undo, so repealing Roe v Wade is still a big win.
I hope we don’t get into a tit for tat situation, with one party federalizing abortion for a few years and then the other party undoing or reversing it when they come to power. That’s a no-win situation for either side.
Way too many people would rather have revenge than victory. Short sighted, IMO.
Are you talking about Jeb and mittens?
—-> Trump said that he would negotiate with Democrats on the issue.
I guess if you can post a video or interview where he actually said that with context… we could examine it.
There will be no universal ban on abortion at the federal level.
At the federal level, best case would be some sort of abortion up to 12 or 15 weeks MIGHT be able to get through...However, for that to happen you’d have to have people on both sides willing to defy the most vocal and active of their bases... which just isn’t likely to happen, because the political cost for a Democrat to agree with limitations on Abortions would be too high, and a Republican agreeing to abortion to a certain date would be too high.
Current environment I just don’t see the Fed doing anything on this issue of consequence... so it will remain a state by state thing.
All or nothing does not stop late term abortion. So sad.
Abortion should be a state/local level issue and keep the federal government out of it.
The only people who are pushing for nationwide abortion ban are the ones who are unintentionally pushing for the abortion-on-demand crowd to get this back in place in all 50 states. They fight to win a battle, but will end up losing the war. They’re so stupid, not to mention unconstitutional.
Murder is winning. Winning matters more than innocent blood. With republicans like these who needs democrats.

So now you DON’T like Desantis and think he is a murderer?
Trump has already lost the most conservative part of his base
