Texas GOP Attorney General Ken Paxton was reinstated to office Saturday after the state Senate voted to acquit him on all 16 articles of impeachment that had been voted against him by the House of Representatives.
"Today the truth prevailed," Paxton wrote in a release shared on X, the platform previously called Twitter. "The truth could not be buried by mudslinging politicians or their powerful benefactors. I've said many times: Seek the truth! And that is what was accomplished."
Paxton faced 16 articles of impeachment that alleged he used his power and office to help donor-investor Nate Paul work through legal difficulties. He was also accused of accepting bribes in the form of renovations to his home. One of the articles of impeachment was about a job from Nate Paul for a woman with whom Paxton was having an extramarital affair.
He denied all allegations and the state Senate voted to acquit him on all counts Saturday.
Paxton promised in the press release to continue his job as attorney general and defend constitutional rights.
"Now that this shameful process is over, my work to defend our constitutional rights will resume," he added. "Thank you to everyone who has stood with us during this time."
"I will address the nation and Texas on Tucker Carlson next week," Paxton's statement concluded. "Now it is back to work!"
Listen to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick’s speech after the acquittal. He took the house to the verbal wood shed. It sounds like he threatened to make them pay the exorbitant legal bills they racked up themselves rather than the tax payers.
It was really a good speech.
There. Fixed it.
Yep!

Listen to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick’s speech after the acquittal.

Patrick made specific reference to the floor speech of John Smithee on May 27th. It’s definitely worth the listen and makes it much clearer as to how bad the behavior was of the House. He did that by comparing it to two previous impeachments.

One of the main things Patrick brought up was how the house (i.e., Phalen) brought up the impeachment with no prior time to discuss the charges, or to challenge any of them. It was basically railroaded through the house and into the senate. I believe if some of those house members realized there was NO evidence (I mean literally none), their vote might have been different.
Tucker is a force these days. Good to see.
I have seen it. It was a good speech.
“indicted”
no quarter
It’s time to make them play “lawfare” from inside the bars.
I’m sure there were a few true conservatives who voted to impeach. Problem is the times. You don’t give an inch to our enemies.
It certainly doesn't work that way in the federal government (Al Gore didn't become "acting President" the instant Clinton was impeached, and Slick Willie wasn't put under house arrest until the Senate acquitted him, etc.), and I don't know of any state governments that "suspend" an elected official the instant they're impeached, either. Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich could certainly discharge the powers of his office until the bitter end, and there was NO DOUBT he did what he was accused of.
As I noted, "suspending" a government official until the trial is concluded is effectively designating them "Presumed Guilty UNTIL proven innocent", and is antithetical to everything the American justice system stands for.
Very punchable face.
Everyone should watch the speech by Texas rep Smithee
He gave this speech moments before the House absurdly voted to impeach Paxton on Saturday evening of Memorial Day weekend.
It was an appalling abuse of power:

Maybe they are democrats at heart.
👍🏻
They were “taking the moral high road”
That was an excellent speech. Thanks for the link.

What has Abbott’s position been on all this?
