Female long-haul trucker Maybi Izquierdo said she spent her birthday in jail last year after using her gun to defend herself at home against an aggressive male roommate.
One year later, her case in California has been dismissed, and she’s reflecting on how the Second Amendment helped protect her from violence and the unexpected.
"I think I cried," Izquierdo told Fox News Digital of her Sept. 25, 2022 arrest. "I wanted to talk to my mom. I wanted to talk to my dad … and let them know what happened."

"When I went to close the door of the little bathroom, he [held] the door. That's when I noticed it was gonna go down. Something. He was gonna hit me or rape me or, or who knows?" she said.

Izquierdo spent the next 20 or so days behind bars until her sister reminded her on a phone call she was a U.S. Concealed Carry Association member, which offers self-defense liability insurance. She then connected with Beltran and his team, who argued Izquierdo was acting in self-defense when she pulled the trigger.

Ping
Deadly force is *always* justified when a person has good reason to fear death or serious injury at the hands of another.
She's a trucker. Commifornia is doing their best to get the truckers out of there.
How about don’t talk to cops without an attorney present

Ping; much is made of the self-defense lawyer services like USCCA, but here’s an article citing their involvement in a real case.
I suspect that a lot of DAs are abusers themselves. They can’t stand the thought of a woman defending herself against someone like them. They are lawyers, after all.
I am 75 years old and will lose a fight with a young thug. I am very adept with firearms for 60 years. I will make every effort to not use my weapon. I will try and defuse the situation. If I can leave the area safely I will. Trying to leave and not being able to means a lot legally. If you are aggressive and continue to approach and I have my weapon in hand, at 21 feet I will shoot you center of mass. Less than 21 feet and the bad guy can get to you before you fire your weapon.
Be alert and vigilante. Avoid areas where trouble may come to you. If it comes to you, be prepared.
I live in Texas.
Thank you for spelling "defuse" correctly. That's rare.
Self defense insurance is a thing.
I’ve had it since I was licensed almost 15 years ago.
$40 per month. Second Call Defense.
My dad showed me exactly where to shoot to stop a guy. The Israeli IDF does it the same way.
Gotta disagree with ya here.If I’m faced with a treat which presents even a 10% chance of serious harm for me (or someone I love) I’ll shoot.
treat = threat
Yeah but they dont see it that way when a male uses it on a female. Like its just not possible. Tell that to the delivery guy who had three women attack him with pipes and steal his car.
20 days in jail before she remembered she was a USCCA member?
What is the secret? Both my LE and military training taught me to fire two rounds to center mass when armed with a pistol. The military threw in a third shot to the head when we went into the combat zone, this due to the possibility of body armor being worn.
That 21 feet is just a statistical average thrown out during classroom lectures. Either someone is a threat to you or they're not and either you're in fear for your life or you're not. When the threshold of being a threat to me and putting me in fear for my life is crossed, I'm not pulling out a tape measure, I'm pulling the trigger.
It's a modified Ruger 10/22
They're trained to fire two to the groin area and one to the knee.
My dad says do the same but on the third shot aim a touch lower.
