Let's be real...Fauci is/was the head of one of the most exclusive medical organizations in our government. He was indeed the expert in this field.
The idea that Trump knew who would be bigger and better is absurd.
Trump knew absolutely "0" about viruses and how they worked. Bet he never even knew about the 1918 epidemic.
But...I don't think DeSantis should go down that road...because he knew "sh.." about viruses. He guessed.

DeSantis refused to force long-time corrupt Broward County Election Supervisor Brenda Snipes to walk away without her pension intact, but instead chose to let her re-submit her original resignation, after being convicted of violating State and Federal laws for destroying ballots before the expiration date. Those ballots were evidence in a Federal lawsuit against her office, pertaining to a Congressional race.
Governor Rick Scott removed her from office in the aftermath of the 2018 election. She initially submitted her resignation, but then took it back, and decided to go to court. The Judge denied her a hearing about the suspension, and left her future in the hands of the new, incoming Governor DeSantis. So "softballs" DeSantis let a known convicted election fraudster walk off with her pension and benefits intact.

Trump wouldn’t fire him as he was Senior Executive Service.
That did not mean Trump needed to listen to Fauci. He could have had him stand in the background and say nothing.
Trump handled the pandemic poorly. He foisted the vaccine on us. He locked us down. And he spent trillions.
The entire government class was so terrified of making mistake, they were paralyzed into making “safe”decisions. They turned out to be horrible mistakes.
At least we know what NOT to do next time.
