Donald Trump remains on top of the polls among Republican presidential candidates, but the gap between the former president and his onetime political protégé could be narrowing following the first GOP debate.
A new poll from Public Opinion Strategies — a polling firm working for the DeSantis' campaign — shows Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis closing in on Trump among Iowa voters.
The poll, obtained by Fox News Digital, interviewed 400 Iowa likely GOP caucus-goers and included a ballot test that saw DeSantis rise from 14% support up to 21% post-debate.
Trump slid by one percentage point, from 42% to 41%.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley also saw a large bump in the polls, rising from 3% support to 11% post-debate, while South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott slid from 8% to 7%.
Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy saw the largest slide, dropping from 10% support to 7%. Former Vice President Mike Pence remained at 2% in the poll.

You are quoting the timing of the before survey. In the same comment the after debate date is given.
Slow down you will live longer or at least enjoy it more
Surveys conducted Aug. 18-20, 2023, and Aug. 24, 2023, among at least 1,256 potential Republican primary voters, with an unweighted margin of error of up to +/-3 percentage points.

DeSantis could gain ten points and still be hopeless.

DeSantis is the best of the restHe's a Neocon just like the rest and wants to throw more money at Ukraine. As much of a loser he is, at least Christie was honest about not supporting Trump. DeSantis looked around before seeing he was in the minority and then timidly raised his hand.
DeSantis is trash.

Why is boldly saying you are not supporting Trump good? Biden will boldly tell you he is not supporting Trump, you going to vote for him? . Chistie did nothing while in office other than hug Obama. Not honest, recommended Wray. At least DeSantis handled Covid better than Trump and took on Disney.

Regarding Reagan and Iowa, you are probably right as I wasn’t even old enough to go to school in 1980.
I’ve lived in Iowa for years/decades, but I first participated in a caucus in 2016, and only because Trump was running. I’d voted in every normal election since turning 18, but didn’t think caucuses were worth the hassle.
The most die-hard Trump supporters that I know personally are ex-Democrats, blue collar, 2nd ammendment supporters, Gen-X, and older Millenials.
The Trump haters (those who hate him more than your typical Democrat) are the “highly educated”, regardless of whether they claim to be Democrat or Republican— masters degree, PHD, medical doctors, etc. They hate him with a burning passion, to the point of voting for Biden to “teach Republicans” a lesson.
My observation is that if it wasn’t for Trump, Iowa would still be a “toss-up” state. It is because of Trump that Iowa is now dominated by Republicans. In the 2020 election, pretty much only the college towns and the black ghetto areas went for Biden — big change from when McCain ran in 2008.

I just posted the article for discussion, which was carried by many major news services including the NY Post. The full story is yet to be learned.
Another "article for discussion".
*****
Rupert Murdoch owns the New York Post who commissioned the statistically valid poll of 1,800 voters. [DATA HERE]
Within the results President Trump now commands 61% of the vote amid republicans with no other candidate reaching double digits. Ron DeSantis has collapsed to 9% after losing two-thirds of his previous support.
Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson no longer register any support. Vivek Ramaswamy polls with 5%, the same as Mike Pence.
The poll was conducted after the Republican primary debate.

The best choice after Trump is none of the above. Let the democrat-worshipping rino-republican party go the way of The Whigs.

“But, Ronald Reagan was divorced and was a democrat in his youth, so the Churchianity types didn’t like that.”
You sound anti-Christian. You realize that Trump is also divorced ...more than once....and was also a Democrat.
To: Golden Eagle
Closing that gap alright. Meanwhile, Trump’s on course to lap him and the rest of the Republican also-rans.

Not anti-Christian, anti-self-righteous. I don’t care whether Trump was divorced or a Democrat. He was/is an excellent President like Reagan. Trump has done more for Christians and the American people than every poser president since Reagan.

Well calling them “Churchianity types” sounds a bit critical... especially considering that the evangelicals have been solidly behind Trump all the way. Just sayin....
To: Danie_2023
The evangelicals have been solidly behind Trump since he proved himself during his administration. But in the 2016 caucuses, they were solidly behind Cruz. At the caucus I attended, I had to listen to those holier-than-thou types badmouthing Trump like they were auditioning for MSNBC.
What do I mean by “Churchianity types”? Put bluntly, Calvinists. Their stronghold is Orange City and their leader is Bob Vander Plaats who fancies himself leader of evangelicals.
