Californians were forced to climb trees to escape dangerous floodwaters and mudslides sweeping through the state on Sunday.
A flash flood hit Seven Oaks in the San Bernardino Mountains bringing down the Santa Ana bridge and leaving residents sheltering in the trees.
LA and the surrounding area has been battered by Tropical Storm Hilary's record rain levels and strong winds that have brought down trees and power lines and flooded roads.
School closures across the city and Palm Springs have been announced for Monday as the storm raged on.
The National Weather Service continued to warn of life-threatening flooding from heavy rain in western LA County and eastern Ventura County on Sunday night.
California is enduring devastating floods and dangerously strong winds, as well as a 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Ventura County which hit on Sunday afternoon.

Ironic its named Hilary. I know its not 2 “l’s” but still.
This “hurricane” hasn’t amounted to much in the OC part of the LA Basin. Points east of us may have been hit harder.
If you're going to San Francisco
the streets may be clean when you get there...
This report reveals a severe bias in reporting.
This was nowhere near a record rainfall in most areas, and
as for wind, it was non-existent in two place I know of,
from San Diego to Northern Los Angeles.
I doubt that this is a record even for this date, but if it
is, it is nothing compared to the rain we had earlier this
year. The idea this is some sort of record is preposterous
unless you limit comparisons severely, and are solely intent
on misleading readers.
Yeah…I haven’t climbed any trees today. We had my grandchild’s 4th birthday at a venue in No. Long Beach. Other than several heavy downpours. we were indoors …and the earthquake that made the chandelier lights swing a bit… had a great time. All made it home safe and sound. Water accumulation on streets was about the same for any heavy rain…actually lighter than when I walked to school in rainstorm mid 1960’s…. Drainage has been improved. Only dangerous thing I saw were the idiots driving 50 mph on water drenched streets, weaving in and out of lanes.
It was a non-event here in San Diego. A little rain and no high winds. A couple of our winter storm this year were stronger.
Utter balderdash.
It was a non-event, a nothing burger. But as usual, the rabid leftists had to milk it for their insidious use.
Just looking for some fresh coconuts.
Yes, is it just me, or is this California hurricane getting more attention then the typical hurricane that strikes the east coast?
Its way more unusual for the west coast to have them.
I lived in California for 29 years, and we never had a hurricane.
Hilary slowed and quit being a hurricane about halfway up the Baja coast at around Cedros Island and was then considered a tropical storm. A hurricane would be atypical for the west coast, and is typical for the east coast as mentioned.

It’s climate hype. That’s all.
What’s a punter?
But will we get some good youtube vids out of it .
I remember one with a news lady sitting in a canoe .... telling me all about the massive flooding (some where )
when a guy walked behind her .. showing the water was about ankle deep .... BWAHAHAH .. loved it
There are pitchers and catchers. I think the punters come in when there are very few options left.
I think that people would agree that I've spent most of my life out of my tree.
