The first Russian spacecraft meant to land on the moon in nearly 50 years failed to enter its pre-landing orbit of the moon Saturday, according to Roscosmos, the Russian state space corporation.
In a statement, the corporation said that an “abnormal situation occurred on board the automatic station, which did not allow the manoeuvre to be performed with the specified parameters.”
The spacecraft, Luna-25, was expected to land on the moon on Monday, and it is unclear now whether it will stick to that schedule. Roscosmos said the team was investigating the situation but did not give further details.
It was the nation’s first attempt to land on the moon since the Soviet era, and signaled a growing space race with the U.S. and China—especially to the lunar south pole, where Luna-25 was expected to land.
Here’s hoping they stick the landing.
I’m hoping they make a crater. That’s about all Ruzzia can make these days.
I bet it lands, but not slowly
I should have put an LOL after my post. That thing is going to spread little circuit boards all over the lunar surface…that is, if it ever gets close enough.
Ground control to...
No the burn didn’t go as planned
No living man landed on the moon. There’s a little problem called the Van Allen Belts. The more we know about them. The more dangerous they are.
Should have just said aliens hijacked it and called it a day. That seems to be the thing these days.
Oh Ivan...you’ve lost another spacecraft???
Hosefeathers!

So their lander crashed in the Utah desert?
Stuff like this takes practice, and the Russians haven’t landed anything on the Moon in decades. I’d be tempted to gloat, but we haven’t landed anything on the Moon in decades, either.
True. All the guys behind the Apollo program are dead.
But we have Elon Musk today.
One of the problems with cryogenic fuel (liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen - Artemis; or Methane for SpaceX) is its hard to pre-cool the valves to -450 C and then fire the rocket without thermal issues. Expansions s contraction at the extreme temperatures are hell on seals. Jamming (or freezing in place) is all too common
Apollo used Kerosene and liquid Oxygen- better risk tree; imho
Oh stop it. Just admit the moon was threatening Russia with
its nukes.

That’s an awful lot of convoluted language to describe a space fart. I’m gonna use that the next time I rip one.
RE: All the guys behind the Apollo program are dead.
Not true. Four of America’s moonwalkers are still alive: Aldrin (Apollo 11), David Scott (Apollo 15), Charles Duke (Apollo 16), and Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17).
