'A movement can't be about the personality of one individual.'
Florida’s Governor is going on the offense against the former President — and his devoted supporters.
In an interview with the Florida Standard, Ron DeSantis is ripping Donald Trump backers as privileging personality over conservative purity.

Typical Trumpist distortion.
DeSantis has no chance of ever winning the presidency if he can’t win over the Trump supporters.
I had hoped to see Trump win in 2024 and then vote for DeSantis in 2028.
He has blown his chances. It’s okay to go hard against Trump, because that’s the way the game is played. But to alienate Trump’s core voters is simply stupid.
I can’t help but believe that the rest of the field knows Trump is going to win the nomination by a mile, but are willing to do whatever it takes to are sure he loses in the general election. Their loyalty to the GOP and their corporate donors far outweighs any loyalty they have to us.
A movement can’t be about the personality of one individual.’????
The tea party grew out one man’s personality(Barack) who was an affront
But, you want us to follow you?
Got
It...
This guy is either completely tone deaf, or he’s deliberately ignoring the obvious just so he can put on a brave face. Republican voters aren’t turned off by him because they think he’s a “RINO.” They’re turned off by him because he’s a Republican.
He is polling at 15% (tops) because he’s an entrenched political figure in a major political party that has destroyed its own credibility among its grassroots supporters over the last 20+ years. And the GOP did this by marching in lockstep with the Democratic Party on almost every major issue that mattered most to these supporters — from immigration to trade to ObamaCare to stupid endless wars in Third World dumps all over the globe.
I’m glad he’s fighting back. Trump has been calling him all kinds of offensive names…and so have Trump’s supporters here…even before he started running, because Trump was afraid he’d be a rival.
Trump benefitted from the indictments because everybody felt they had to support him…and we all do have to support him. DeSantis said just a couple of days ago that these indictments are just political persecution.
But Trump…pro-vax, pro-lockdown, pro-government bailouts…needs to explain a few things and needs to give people policy reasons to vote for him.
He’s being contemptuous of the voters if he just thinks he deserves it. Nobody “deserves” my vote. I voted for him twice before and I do think he won in 2020 and I think he needs to keep pursuing that.
But that’s a separate matter, and if he wants to be President again, he’s got to give us reasons for voting for him other than simply that he’s Trump.
Ever since the first Obama election, the parties have been selling personalities and not policy. While I think Biden did not win, way too many people did vote for him…a man who didn’t even campaign….because the Dems sold his image as a warm fuzzy grandpa (nothing could be further from the truth, of course). I want to hear policy and specifics from all the candidates, Trump included.
I prefer being a “basket of deplorables”
I don’t understand politicians calling voters names. Sure, attack your opposition but don’t attack the voters, you may want them on your side.
That’s a very interesting tactic to lure Trump supporters into DeSantis’ camp. I guess that happens when you never had a job in the private sector. Working for government your entire life warps your decision making.
Only someone completely controlled by Republican establishment operatives would express this kind of disdain for the base of the party.
FURDS
DeSantis calling me Deplorable is so….so Hilary.
Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill once said something about thanking your constituents and ASKING each for their vote.
As much as I dislike Tip O’Neill’s policies I did not dislike him as a person. Supposedly, he and Reagan got along rather well. Boy, the world has changed, or maybe it me. I loathe the current speaker and he’s supposed to be on our side. That’s both as a man and from a policy perspective.
He’s obviously not trying to win an election anymore. He’s under orders to burn the party down. The rinos have lost control of the party and they are burning down the barn, shooting all the animals, salting the fields, and poisoning the well.
Before we were deplorables, now we’re ‘useless vessels’?
I can’t believe how DeSantis almost INSTANTLY upon announcing sided up not with Americans who admired him for being his own man, but with that clique of snooty, obnoxious, condescending GOP “leaders.” He’s been in lockstep with them ever since.
LOL Ron was running “before he was running”. that’s why I have no respect for Ron. he is a liar, long term govt paycheck boy, who thought he could line his pockets more by listening to long term anti American fools to run for president now. Ron was so greedy and stupid to listen to them.
I don’t support Trump because of his personality. I never liked him until September 2015 when he started talking on the debate stage and said the same exact things I was saying in my kitchen about immigration, the economy, and the precarious state of our country. Now I also support him for what he accomplished in 4 short yrs in DC with virtually no help from his own party. So Ron can kindly STFU.
Ron has now stepped in the Bush Rule:
“Attacking your base is not a winning strategy”
durable movement...is that, like, constipation or something
Some of them even post a lot on Free Republic.

I think I understand the essence of that rant, which appears to be “I’m a Trump hater who supports ____________________!” (fill in the blank).
