Sorry Mainstream Media, Climate Change Has Not Caused 2023’s Heatwaves

It’s hot out there.

Yeah, it’s summer and summer is typically hot, but it has been hotter than usual this summer across much of the globe.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of local daily temperature records around the world have been set during the present heatwave, which, in some locations, has persisted for an extended period of time. The heatwaves are real. I say heatwaves because it is not a single global heatwave but a series of regional ones.

For progressive bloviating politicians and alarmed reporters in mainstream media the cause of the present hot weather is simple: climate change. As H. L. Mencken once said, “[f]or every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.”

Climate change is a long-term phenomenon, driven by a combination of numerous factors at different locations during different eras. A single year’s spike in heatwaves is not evidence of long-term climate change; a steadily increasing trend in heatwaves would be, but that’s not what the evidence shows. Instead, data show that the warming of the past 150 to 170 years has not produced a trend of increasing heatwaves. As a result, the modest recent rise in global temperatures serves as a backdrop or baseline for the recent heatwave; it is not its cause.

It turns out a confluence of overlapping weather and meteorological events account for the pattern of persistent heatwaves in many locations.

One event contributing to a global rise in temperatures this year is the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haʻapai volcanic eruption. Water vapor makes up 98 percent or more of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and the subsea Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haʻapai eruption added an additional 10 to 13 percent to atmospheric water vapor. Scientists from NASA and the European Space Agency agree.....

We still got a lot of snow in the Sierras. Mammoth just closed their ski ops Aug 6 after 250 plus skiing days. But, yeah, it's summer. Again. 52 at our place this morning.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Perhaps it’s all the fires caused by EV’s and E-bikes.

It's a strange phenomenon. Mass segments of Americans wake up every day just to watch their television or smart phone tell them what to be a victim of for the day.

It's bizarre.

Really? Let’s look at a common hot spot near here, Tulsa OK.
Well lookee heah lookee heah! The 1930s still win! And no Air Conditioning back then!

another article about this.

that is a huge % change in water vapor in the stratosphere.

i will observe I have not seen any modeling about this volcano’s impact, nor would I think we are likely to, but I do wonder just what such modeling would show over the next few years. it could actually be serious, which I assume would thrill the usual suspects.

Sloppy headline.

“Climate Change Has Not Caused 2023’s Heatwaves” is not true. Climate change *has* caused heatwaves. A better title would have been “Humans Have Not Caused 2023’s Heatwaves.”

Yep, this whole idea of climate change is just a Trojan horse 🐴 for communism.

Lets look at TX. In 1980, it was 115. Yeah, I remember that because I’d come in from work and sit in front of the fridge in a wet towel. Grandpa found out and put a window unit in.

In 2011, nearby towns were out of drinking water due to the drought and rivers ran dry. Ok, a lot of the dry riverbeds was due to having to send the water down to the rice fields. That was the summer the weather folk were all ecstatic saying “100 days of 100+ temps!!!” There were several days of 110+ temps.

Funny, the weather folk have misplaced those record breaking records. I can’t go anywhere without hearing people either laugh at or are disgusted at the horse hockey “boiling” records this summer. It is all lies.

I can remember in the late 70's and early 80's, when the weather reports in the summer would report an official "heat wave", with temps (in the NYC metro area) of 100F+ for 3 or more consecutive days. There was no alarm, there was no shock and hand-wringing. It was summer, and it was not unexpected or unusual.

I cannot remember ONE such occurrence in the past 30 years.

climate change cover hundreds of years. Averaging weather temps/conditions over say...200 years is just simple ole “averaging”.

“Lets look at TX. In 1980”

I remember that Summer, 40 something days over 100 then a break for a day of 99 then twenty or so more days over 100. Just graduated high school, me and a buddy were groundskeepers for the Summer, it was brutal. Funny nobody was talking “Global Warming” back then, it was just a really hot Summer, no big deal.

El Niño. It happens periodically as El Niño changes the direction of air and ocean currents. It is feast or famine off the coast of Peru.

There has been a LOT of hyperventilating about the consistent mid nineties highs here but 25 years ago we had a succession of years with the same pattern but 8-9 degrees hotter. The regime believes that no one has a memory span greater than a year.

The author is forgetting one very important thing; the Earth is a living dynamic changing entity. Author assumes the Earth is a fixed unchanging vessel and it is far from it. As demands are placed upon the Earth it adjusts accordingly with variable Weather, Winds, temps and surface pressures to name just a few variables. These variables adjust constantly to compensate for Volcanoes, Hurricanes, Sun Spots and other phenomena that make the Earth stay in a potential unbalanced state of Equilibrium.................

this is typically written about as being over x years/decades/centuries etc., having made no long-term difference.

in this case we are examining potential very short-term impacts, e.g. a year or a few years or?

I suspect, now that I think about it, that modeling work on increasing water vapor x% HAS been done even if it were just to try to understand how venus got where it is vs. whatever else, or possibly in the early decades of the global warming stuff.
