Nolte: National Review Executive Editor Attacks Oliver Anthony…. (Rich Men North of Richmond)
Breitbart ^ | 8-14-23 | Nolte

Posted on 08/14/2023 3:41:56 PM PDT by wardaddy

An everyday man comes out of rural Virginia with a folk song empathetic to the working class, and the executive editor of National Review is triggered into attacking him and the song.

This establishment elite is so above it all he dissects “Rich Men North of Richmond” lyric by lyric. Honestly, the best way to read these excerpts is in the voice of Thurston Howell III:

“Yes — it is a damn shame what the world’s gotten to. But we can fix it. We don’t have to just dream about it.Indeed, if we want to, we can fix it on our own even if Washington is standing in our way or looking down its nose at us,” lovey.

Scathing especially from usually fairly benign John Nolte

National Review is pretty much just gays for tax cuts at this point. Sad.

Based on the volume and tenor of all the bleating……I’d say the song hit the nail squarely…..

those living in rural parts of America often “feel threatened economically, culturally, socially” because “they have no contact with the expert class.” -David Brooks.

Liberals online piled on Democrat Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut after he shared the viral blue-collar anthem “Rich Men North of Richmond.”

Murphy shared the song taking the Internet by storm on Monday, calling on progressives to listen to the song decrying the state of the country under Democrat leadership.

Crazy world, liberal likes the song, conservative denigrates it.

“ there’s nothing Thurston has written that I disagree with.”

I like, though, how he links to NR article praising Epstein.

NR has been bad for a long time.

NR wants to be invited to all the DC and NYC cocktail parties, so they just push “Let’s Lose with Honor” articles and collect contributions from the big donors.

Should have closed up shop after Buckley passed away, At least he was funny , intelligent and a Christian.
Modern National Review is none of those things.

America...it’s a land that’s made for you and me.

He would quote a song by a Communist balladeer that was intended as a Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist and atheist alternative to Kate Smith's God Bless America. And National Review still has the audacity to call itself "conservative"!

The song would have resonated with 1930s to 1970s Democrats.

Now, that style of Democrat is considered a racist heterosexual white supremacist. Current Democrats have excluded the majority of the country from their party (except those who are willing to kiss the ring of their masters).

National Review is a disgusting excuse for a conservative publication. There is nothing a conservative can do that is not criticized by one or more of the writers there.

To this musician they say “Sing a little kumbaya and be happy for the crumbs your betters allow you”. And, “How dare you complain!”

Anthony sang it at the Farmville Market (the local farmers market) over the weekend. It’s on youtube. The song had only been out four or five days and the crowd knew the lyrics and was singing along. My favorite part of the lyrics:

“These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do
And they don’t think you know, but I know that you do”

I am actually surprised ... that the National Review is still in business!

(I thought it had died with William F. Buckley Jr.)
