An Army installation in Texas has been struggling to put food on the table for its soldiers for months as the base faces a shortage of cooks to staff its dining facilities.
Fort Cavazos, Texas, previously known as Fort Hood, has struggled to provide its junior enlisted troops with meals for months, with the base only opening two of its 10 major dining facilities for much of the summer and with limited times, according to a report Tuesday from Military.com.
According to the report, the base has faced a shortage of cooks to man the dining facilities around base, with many Army cooks either on deployment or away on field training. Soldiers who depend on the dining facilities to eat have also faced confusing and conflicting opening schedules for the facilities as base officials attempt to move personnel around to staff the food service buildings.

I do, too!
True, but that’s totally not the point. The point is HOW could this even happen! What if they are on deployment where they have to rely on their own cooks. I’m just so angry right now.

This kind of thing is becoming routine, simple incompetence, everyday incompetence, routine things like a daily stateside mess hall lunch schedule beyond the abilities of our NCOs and Officers to handle.
Well, if the cooks aren’t there to cook it.....they don’t get it.
Not that I would want it. LOL!
I hate Biden.
THAT point is what makes me the most angry. Spending billions of dollars on them and can’t even hire cooks to feed our own. 😡😡😡😡
“What happened to SOS aka Sh*t On Shingle Feed ‘em that .......”
When I was in the army, the Mess Sergeants took pride in their Mess Halls and the food they produced....even the SOS.
Remember the old Army recruiting slogan, "be all you can be?" The 2023 version appears to be, "be whatever you want to be."
Then send them dinners of the Porcini Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye with 15-Year Aged Balsamic from the Capital Grille in Austin.
Don't know if they can cater 10,000 meals a day, but DoD has the money.
They could do what was standard in John Bell Hoods day. They issued rations, and the soldiers cooked them in small groups. Everyone needs to know how to cook .
hungry soldiers will be hangry soon.
Would have felt better about the Air Force Chow halls if they didn’t always park an ambulance right by it.
Send the enlisted troops to the O club.
Gawd, that man in the blue dress is the worst of the lot!
It would also explain the lack of clear causality - the JAG office sends out a gag order because they don't want to contaminate potential jurors.
I've seen similar situations after a large bust and it took longer than one would think to fix the staffing shortages.
Hey Fort Cavazos I’m available.😁
As a guy that went through cooks AIT in the Vietnam era and then was a Reserve Mess Sgt. I can tell you what happened — civilian cooks.
by the mid 70s civilian cooks began to make up a lot of the mess hall employees and by the 90s that was the vast majority.
In civilian life I built a lot of projects on military bases. Some had 16 mess halls with only two predominantly staffed with military cooks. That is where I paid to eat lunch, not the ones that might have a few military managers and civilian cooks.
I would think that skills training they could still get enough interested enlisted in the volunteer era but I don’t think they wanted to have cooks make up a significant percentage of the forces.
I was a good qualified rifleman as well and ran big consolidated mess halls feeding over a thousand man each meal as well as forward tent based field kitchens.
Nobody wants to feed Brandon’s army.

An Army travels on its stomach. It is now Biden’s Army, starve it. Tell all you know, friends, family, veterans, young and old to NOT participate, do NOT join, do not think of joining,….never, ever enlist…the draft they have discussed and may try to instate will sink him and all of his corrupted, immoral administration.
A defeat of our military may just be the only thing to save us.
….from an ex-82nd concerned citizen.
Just another sample of Biden’s building back better.
For Xi
Agreed, no one ever asked our veterans about the disgusting name changes.
History will record that was when our military died, ripe for defeat. A good military defeat on the battlefield is exactly what is called for- realization Biden destroyed our once mighty military- rebuilding a defeated Army is easier than trying to “ fix” a morally corrupted one.
