Ukrainian Refugees Fill Positions In North Dakota Oil Industry

Ukrainian refugees are filling open job positions in the shale patch of North Dakota, thanks to a humanitarian program, the AP reports, noting 16 Ukrainians have already started work in the shale patch and another 12 are due to arrive later this month.

There are some 2,500 job vacancies in the Bakken shale play in North Dakota, which currently produces some 1.1 million barrels of oil daily.

The output in the play peaked in 2019 at 1.5 million barrels daily and has been in decline since then.

As of June, there were 38 drilling rigs in the Bakken but North Dakota’s mineral resources director Lynn Helms said at the time that these should bounce back to the mid-40s when the first batch of Ukrainian workers under the humanitarian program arrived.

“If this workforce program works as well as we hope, we’re going to see that rig count bounce back, and that adds a lot of dollars to North Dakota’s economy,” Helms said in June, as quoted by the Bismarck Tribune.

The program, dubbed Bakken Global Recruitment of Oilfield Workers, or GROW, was launched earlier this year with the aim of filling job vacancies in the Bakken through immigration with the initial focus on Ukrainians.

The Bakken shale play is still one of the biggest producing oil regions in the U.S. shale patch. The biggest player there is Harold Hamm’s Continental Resources, the company that revealed the true potential of the place back in the early 2000s.

Since then, however, natural depletion has reduced the output of crude oil while increasing the production of natural gas, Bloomberg reported earlier this year.

The headline is stretching the truth.

28 job vacancies out of 2,500 were filled by Ukrainian refugees.

That’s 1.1%

And those are jobs that could’ve been given to US citizens.

And those are jobs that could’ve been given to US citizens. Assuming of course they could find U.S. citizens willing to do the work.

What a great idea. Recruit foreign workers to fill oil field jobs while you are simultaneously crushing the industry for American workers. DC is azzhoe. The DC Junta hates American people.

That is a lame answer. If you pay competitive wages, there are plenty of Americans looking for work. Take a look at any of the job boards, especially LinkedIn, and you can see that almost every job posting has literally hundreds of applicants, some have thousands. There’s never been a real shortage of workers, the problem is some companies wanna pay non-competitive wages, which leaves them to only hiring non-citizens.

Why is this the first we’ve heard about job vacancies in the Bakken? Didn’t even know they were still producing oil there. And those 2500 vacancies will be filled tout suite by the “refugees” flooding into our country, courtesy of Uncle Sam! 🤬

They also love having workers, who know if they get fired, have to leave the country. Gives the employers a lot of leverage.

Good for them. I’m sure they know more about the oil & gas business than Humper Biden.

A handfull of ukranians are going to raise the rig count by 7? Not bloody likely. They aren’t even trained and it will take more than that to just grease.

What is Lynn smoking?

Idiot.

Its either that or they would sit around watching TV in a tax payer funded hotel collecting welfare.

They’re fleeing persecution. They’ll make good Americans. I just wish they’d go to the purple states and bring 3 kids with them.

Is there a labor shortage? There’s definitely a shortage of people being born here. Same with all industrial countries, including Russia. I say steal their young productive citizens with a future. We’ll need them for ours unless you enjoy falafel and tacos.

Good. Ukrainians have traditionally been hard workers, law abiding and assimilate into the larger culture.

My guess is that the Union Leaders [Business Agents] [Not Rank and File Members] are paid off secretly by the Government. Unions are controlled by the Business Agent. Don’t do as they say, their Goon Squad breaks your leg. or kills you.
