The COMPLETE list of ALL Congress members 80 years and OLDER. Should we care?
GlennBeck.com ^ | August 4, 2023 | Staff

The aging population of our Congress has become a trending news topic.

Last month 89-year-old Senator Feinstein had to be told what to say during a vote by one of her aides after a nearly two-month medical leave of absence with shingles. More recently, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had a concerning mental episode while giving a routine press briefing. Not to mention Joe Biden's relentless gaffes. As Glenn said this week, keeping these health-compromised elderly individuals in power is "elder abuse" and just plain "cruel."

Keeping health-compromised, elderly individuals in power is "elder abuse."

Both of these leaders are over 80, and their recent episodes have sparked many to ask: how old is "too old" to serve in Congress? This topic is a delicate one. However, the American people should be able to discuss whether age plays a factor in their representatives' and Senators' ability to carry out their duties in the best interest of their constituents. How old is "too old" to serve in Congress?

There are 16 Congressmen and women who are 80 years old and older, some of which were born before World War II. There are many more who are on the cusp of 80, well past the normal age of retirement. Below you will find the complete list of ALL 16 Congressmen and women who are 80 and over. Do YOU think age should be a factor in determining your vote? Let us know in the comments below.

I’m more worried about the idiots who continue to vote for these people.

I think it’s party affiliation & name familiarity for most voters. These elders should be ashamed of themselves. They just can’t give up the power.

That’s a start, but I want to see anyone who has served for 12 years in Congress, in either the House or the Senate combined, be permanently barred from running for either Congress again.

TERM LIMITS ARE NEEDED. PERIOD

2 House terms-—2 Senate terms-—NO MORE & NO SWITCHING.

Do either one or the other——not 2 House terms & then 2 Senate terms.

Next they’ll leave the seat to their staff in their will so they can keep collecting money

I think Senate terms should be reduced to 4 years. Six years is too long.

Term limits would cure the age problem in a better way. Some people are sharp at 80, others are like Biden.

Any Senator over the age of 80 must be required to pass the Chuck Grassley test of doing multiple pushups.

Grassley is the only aged Senator who seems to still be able to count his marbles.

Grassley is kinda like Strom Thurmond of yesteryear.

In 1970, Pope Paul VI established that cardinals aged 80 and over cannot participate in the process of electing a pope. That age seems to be a reasonable cutoff.

So, yeah. A person should not be eligible for any federal office if at or over age 80 on Election Day. (I’d prefer 75, but that’s for another thread.)

This would take a constitutional amendment. That’s doable, but only if current office-holders would be exempt. Otherwise, the pushback would be too great.

And there is precedence for that. In 1947 a proposed amendment limited the president to two terms only. But the current president, Harry Truman, was exempt. So everyone was happy.

I’d be willing to say 6 in the house, 2 in the Senate, and 3 for a president. 12 years each. Allow to go from from either house or Senate to President. Mandatory retirement at 70 but allowed to finish a partial term.

They vote themselves raises. They go in making 6 figures and retire with luxury ranches and vacation homes. Their children enjoy lavish vacations and guaranteed jobs. No way these folks will pass term limits. It has to be on the ballot.

Except for the Republicans on that list, let the democrats all croak on the senate or house floor.

I'd rather pass a rule that says you cannot get on the ballot for any office that has a term longer than your time in the military and private sector. If you are running for the first time.

If you've already been in office , then that time PLUS the term of office must be greater than the time you've worked in the private sector plus military.

Maybe an exception for those running for dogcatcher and lower offices only.
