GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called Juneteenth a “useless” holiday during a campaign event with voters in Iowa on Saturday.
Ramaswamy’s remarks, first reported by NBC News, come after he celebrated the holiday earlier this year on June 19, saying it is about honoring how far the country has come and how people can advance through hard work, commitment and dedication. He called for a range of proposals concerning the country’s elections on Saturday, including that all voting happen on one day, having all paper ballots and declaring Election Day a national holiday instead of one of the “useless” ones.

you are really low IQ. You did not understand anything I said.
But you are just a cowboy so I understand your low IQ.
A new chapter in American history opened as the Thirteenth Amendment, was passed in January of 1865, was implemented, Republicans ended Democrat slavery!
That abolished slavery in the United States, and now, with the end of the Civil war:
Four million African Americans were then free!
But “Juneteenth” was NOT the end of slavery. It was still legal in some non former Confederate states, which were outside of the scope of the Emancipation Proclamation. Slavery ended with the ratification of the 13th on 12/6/1865. Celebrate that date if you want to celebrate slavery’s end. Or celebrate the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation if you want to celebrate later beginning of the end. It wasn’t even the end of the fighting. The CSS Shenandoah fired her last shots, killing Yankee whalers in Alaska(!), 6/28/1865 and didn’t learn the war was over until 8/3/1865. Then en route for planned attack on San Francisco, she learned the war was over from a passing ship. She then headed to Liverpool, UK where she safely surrendered 11/7/1865. “Juneteenth” was meaningless to the vast majority of folks, black or white. And it promotes stereotypes regarding black intelligence, of which the Klan would be proud, via its lousy slang name. Vivek is right on this. And if some lefty wants to call him on it I look forward to hearing his response.
I have to disagree. While I do NOT agree with reparations, I have no problem with celebrating the end of slavery in this country.
The problem I have with it is the way the end of slavery happened is downplayed or outright ignored.
I did not understand what “I what happened during Lincoln’s Presidency was as stupid as it get” means. Can you explain it please?
Wasn’t Donald Trump shilling this fake holiday in 2020?
Agreed. And the date should be the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation in September, rather than the obscure occurrence in Texas
The Emancipation, etc. was NOT the end of slavery in the US! It was a war time measure to weaken the Confederacy economically. The end of slavery came with the ratification of the 13th Amendment on 12\6\1865. That should be celebrated because it was national. If Texas wants an additional celebration - Juneteenth that’s their business!
Celebrating Juneteenth nationally is like celebrating historical ignorance nationally!
I’m game. Makes more sense than this obscure Texas event
Well since blacks cant celebrate fathers day,its only right we give them something,,,,
BHM?
Nm.
Exactly who's slavery was it that ended on Juneteenth? Slavery was law in the USA until the ratification of the 13th Amendment, and ratification wasn't certified until December 18th. Slavery in Kentucky and Delaware remained legal until that date.
June 19th was absolutely meaningless.
Thank you.
“Juneteenth” is only slightly less phoney-baloney than Kwankaa.
At least there are verifiable historical FACTS on its origin.
BUT
The name “Juneteenth” is an Ebonics/Pidgin English patronizing contraction. Self respecting African Americans should be ashamed to belittle themselves by speaking it.
