DeSantis says election fraud theories promoted by Trump ‘did not prove to be true’
NBC News ^ | 8/4/2023 | Allan Smith, Alec Hernández and Henry J. Gomez

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday offered his strongest dismissal of the election fraud theories at the heart of former President Donald Trump's push to overturn the 2020 election.

Asked by a reporter during a campaign stop in Iowa whether the 2020 election was "stolen," DeSantis said the fraud theories "did not prove to be true." He did not, however, mention the name of his top rival for the GOP nomination, who was just indicted for allegedly working to overturn the last presidential election.

"I've said many times the election is what it is," DeSantis said. "All those theories that were put out did not prove to be true. But what I've also said is the way you conduct a good election that people have confidence in, you don't change the rules in the middle of the game."

DeSantis went on to talk up changes made to Florida election law under his administration. And he criticized Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's grants for election administration, as well as social media outlets for deemphasizing information from President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden's laptop ahead of the 2020 vote — two favorite targets of conservatives when excoriating the last presidential election.

“Spoken like a true politician.”

That’s all DeSantis really is. A career politician.

If it’s not Trump, the ‘Pubs will have no chance, because they still aren’t taking fraud seriously.

So the fraud DeSantis stopped in FL during his re-election was real, but the 2020 fraud was not?

“I’d never support this Repuke”

Nor could I. DeSantis has had numerous opportunities to take the high road and demonstrate political courage and principles during his disaster of a campaign, but he always seems to go down the low road and give people reasons not to vote for him.

Is this what DeSantis has to do to get money for his campaign from the GOP establishment?

He's DONE.

And I thought he had risen to the highest level of stupidity already...

Does he think if he denies the 2020 fraud (and the 2022 fraud done to Kari Lake) that Democrats would not use the same tactics against him if he became the nominee?

I remember when McStain was the nominee against Obozo. The same lamestream media that fawned over him when he was working in the Senate to thwart Trump ran their usual low-down hit campaign against him in 2008.

Not really correct. Trump didn’t spend a lot of money pursuing things legally. He did spend a lot of time talking.

I was a big DeSantis fan. Was glad that he was running in 2024. Now he’s just an asshole. I despise him even more that krispy at this point.

I do not see where DeSantis benefits in any way to deny there were no election tamperings in 2020.

How does he know there weren’t true? Did he read that in the NYT’s and WaPo? Or did he see it on CNN?

I know of no Court that actually allowed information and evidence to be presented. They were all dismissed on procedural grounds if I recall correctly. The time between the election and certification was not sufficient for proper investigations. Prior to the election, Plaintiffs in election cases were ruled as not having standing or that since no harm had yet been caused, they had no cause of action. Afterwards, claims were found to be moot. And as in Fulton County, Georgia election officials hide information from the Court or outright lied.

DeSantis has no way of actually knowing so his statement that no fraud was sufficient to change the results of the election carries no more weight than my statement that says I believe that it was. Also, DeSantis should be one person who actually gives credit to claims of election fraud. For Florida was rife with it for years prior to the GOP starting to pay attention and boot out the corrupt election officials.

See, you DeSantis fans thought he was a real person - but of course he is not. He is actually a Charlie McCarthy dummy and the NeverTrumps have their hands up his ash working his head.

Oh geez. Trump's team tried and they were denied evidentiary hearings, what, about thirty or more times. They also made presentations to above five state legislatures, where they were granted evidentiary hearings, but they were denied politically.

Never Trumpers love citing the J6 committee.

After a shocking press conference in 2020, where election fraud whistleblower, Jesse Morgan, claimed to have seen hundreds of thousands of completed absentee ballots being transported across three state lines, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has released their final report. This investigation confirms Morgan’s allegations, vindicating the truck driver for his eye-opening testimony.

Confirmed with no explanation.

More proof exists than Russia, Iran, Uganda, Venezuela run corrupt elections added together. The CIA uses nothing more than mathematical inference and suspicious activity to declare rigged elections all over earth.

I googled and saw same tech effectively used to round up J6ers was not reliable enough for the mules or slightly more ridiculous than the Jesse Morgan story.

Absolutely. Of course ‘did not prove to be true’ because Trump did not hire the best attorneys and did not pay for the necessary recounts. The result was a failed attempt to prove the election was stolen, which we all saw. Well, now, Trump may get a do-over thanks to Smith but its a day late, dollar short. He lost his second term. The mess won’t help him now other than an “I told you so!”
