DeSantis says election fraud theories promoted by Trump ‘did not prove to be true’
NBC News ^ | 8/4/2023 | Allan Smith, Alec Hernández and Henry J. Gomez

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday offered his strongest dismissal of the election fraud theories at the heart of former President Donald Trump's push to overturn the 2020 election.

Asked by a reporter during a campaign stop in Iowa whether the 2020 election was "stolen," DeSantis said the fraud theories "did not prove to be true." He did not, however, mention the name of his top rival for the GOP nomination, who was just indicted for allegedly working to overturn the last presidential election.

"I've said many times the election is what it is," DeSantis said. "All those theories that were put out did not prove to be true. But what I've also said is the way you conduct a good election that people have confidence in, you don't change the rules in the middle of the game."

DeSantis went on to talk up changes made to Florida election law under his administration. And he criticized Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's grants for election administration, as well as social media outlets for deemphasizing information from President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden's laptop ahead of the 2020 vote — two favorite targets of conservatives when excoriating the last presidential election.

Maricopa county is run by Republicans. Good grief.

Corrupt "Republicans." Cyber Ninja's proved that. And then the 2022 election? Absolute corruption.

That woman testified to the Arizona Senate that every important office holder in Arizona had been co-opted by the Sinola drug cartel.

That becomes increasingly believable with each passing year.

The burden of proof is on the asserter, not the disputer.

Says who? Is this like the guy who says you can't talk about Nazis or you lose the debate? You know, the guy that advocates a lot of ideas that the Nazis liked?

The information was posted all over Free Republic at the time. If you missed it, that's freaking amazing.

when the war starts, scores will be settled.

So, you ARE an insurrectionist.

Unlike 4F Trump and his two adult sons, I served in the military. My oath to defend this country against all enemies foreign and domestic is still good.

Hopefully, Donald Trump isn’t as idiotic as you, or else he will go to jail.

The Republican House managers got him off twice. The first time, on a false charge pertaining to a phone call to Zelensky. The second time, on instigating a riot (falsely characterized as an insurrection). The second time, the Republican House managers DID NOT argue that Trump won. They argued that Trump used language that politicians routinely use, such as we should fight for our principles; and, they argued that Trump called on his followers to cooperate with law enforcement.

Now Trump and some of his lawyers are arguing that he won the election. They say they will use his J6 trial to re-litigate the election. I’m not a lawyer, so the following is not legal advice. But, this defense will land him in jail. I halfway don’t believe what I am hearing and halfway think Trump will follow the line of defense of his House managers in his impeachment trial.

As you know, the J6 case is one of three (and others may come). A second case concerns tax filings related to Trump’s hush money payments to one of his paramours. Trump’s defense, as best as I can tell, is that the statue of limitations had expired.

A third case involves Trump retaining documents belonging to the U.S. government. Trump’s defense is that he declassified the documents by the very act of taking them. Regardless, the documents are still the property of the United States.

Trump’s company has admitted to tax fraud, and his Treasurer - Allen Weisselberg - is serving a five-month prison term.

Trump has lost a $5 million civil case for defamation to E. Jean Carroll. He says he will appeal this case.

I suppose you don’t like the House managers that defended Trump at his second impeachment, and got him acquitted. Better to go down fighting.

The Charge of the Light Brigade was a waste of cavalry. But, what a great poem!

No, you don’t order men to make frontal attacks on prepared positions. Same thing at Fort Wagner, and Fredericksburg and Pickett’s Charge.

Second impeachment was a Pelosi-Schumer farce! Apparently you approve of these unconstitutional tactics by the uniparty! You sir are the problem and your analysis is a lie.

Trump does not have a commanding lead in the polls. At best it’s a 50-50 proposition against a decrepit old man and Biden.

He drives people away in spite of everything that we like about him. I understand that many people are behind Trump because he’s being persecuted by the legal system, but I just wish had a little more nuance and a little more professionalism..Not because I need to hear from him but because people who may be influenced by him, just turn him off because he’s got such a huge mouth . He’s just got to be more tactful.

He’s done, finished, kaput, Deep State Dork, Jeb! material, flame away but that’s the truth, and with good reason.

If I wanted more of that species of rhetoric, I’d read the websites that generate it, with all due respect.

Politicians are self-serving opportunists. They are like chameleons (lizards actually) who continually shift their colors as a defense mechanism. They take on whatever color fits their purpose at the moment.

That’s why people like Trump. Unlike your typical sleazy politician he’s not evasive and for the most part consistent and genuine. In fact, that’s why most politicians in both parties hate him — he highlights their shifty hypocrisy and makes them look bad.

I’m not talking about us. I’m talking about people who would be open to him if he just calmed down a bit. This is why DeSantis has an appeal… he’s more surgical. Trump uses a chain saw DeSantis uses a knife. Again.. I’m voting GOP regardless, but no getting around the fact that Trumps personality drives out his message.
