Dershowitz: SCOTUS Will Overturn Trump January 6 Conviction
Breitbart ^ | 2 Aug 2023 | Pam Key

Posted on 08/02/2023 9:27:41 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz predicted Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” that the Supreme Court would overrule a conviction of former President Donald Trump for his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

Discussing the indictment, Dershowitz said, “They claim that Donald Trump actually believed that he lost the election. That everything he did was fraudulent. That he conspired with un named lawyers mostly.”

He continued, “I read the indictment carefully. There is no smoking gun. There is no one who is credibly prepared to testify that Donald Trump said to him, I know personally, I lost the election. There is a lot of evidence a lot people told me he lost the election but you know Donald Trump and you ,know he will make up his own mind. And they’ll have a very hard time proving it. District of Columbia, so 90 percent of the jury pool voted against him. So, they may actually get a conviction from a D.C. jury but will survive appellate review and review in the Supreme Court? I don not think so.”

Dershowitz added, “I think he may lose in the states court of appeals for the D.C. Circuit, but I think he will probably win appeals the United States Supreme Court if they grant review and they should grant review.”

“They want him to be the GOP nominee but to be so weakened by scandal and depleted of finances that he easily gets clobbered in the general election”.

I doubt they are that stupid, but if they are that’s wonderful - because it isn’t weakening him.

The GOP base has completely lost confidence in the party’s leadership, and a sizable portion of them are never again going to support the parade of @ssholes the party has rolled out as candidates over the last 30 years.

I'm just repeating it louder, for the idiots in the back!

there are so many crooked leftwing lawyers that it is REFRESHING to read so often Dershovitz’s honest and courageious public statements

say what we may about his political leanings, he frequently sets a fine example that not all lawyers are liars. I, for one, appreciate this

You are easily fooled and manipulated. When it comes to you and the Deep State, you behave just like a whore does to the pimp. You are so abused and befuddled that you confuse continued degradation with safety. I think they call it Stockholm Syndrome.

Under what grounds does the USSC intervene in a case that’s never seen the light of a courtroom??

I didn’t say trump WILL win. I said he’s the only one who CAN win. And any post-election commentary like you describe will be pointless because it’s impossible to accurately assess alternative scenarios with different candidates.

Look at how much has changed in GOP politics since Reagan left office in 1989. We had Bush family members as the nominees or GOP establishment front runners in 5 of 8 presidential elections. And 2023 has marked the first time in more than 40 years that there isn’t either a Bush or Cheney in elected office anywhere in the U.S.

Now, a Republican presidential candidate can count on losing 10-15 points in a general election — and 30-40 points in a Republican primary — just for having a recent photo taken with a Bush or a Cheney.

Unless, of course, by the time any Trump conviction reaches the Supreme Court, a Dem president has managed to reshape it with more leftists.

I have zero confidence in Trump's ability to win the general election.

“At this point the Demonrats don’t care. All they want is to keep DJT out of the ‘24 election”.

I respectfully disagree. This whole charade is a carefully orchestrated effort to ensure Trump gets the GOP nomination. Democrat strategists know that Trump is the only nominee that the feeble, scandal-ridden Biden could possibly eke out a win against. I tend to agree with them. Trump won in 2016 while carrying only 45.9% of the vote. That’s a ceiling he can’t break through, especially in the swing states and given his 60% disapproval rating.

Two aids in the white house testified that they heard Trump admit he lost, twice. Just an fyi.

I'll never forget that song that doug from upland wrote,
Just a penis with a mustache wearing glasses,
That's Alan Dershowitz, that's Alan Dershowitz.
Right after that he shaved off his mustache.

It was a hoot back then but through the years he has come out with many fair and sound positions even against his own party.

“ What was it like riding the short bus when you were a kid?”

It’s easier to insult people than to argue against the case they are making. I for one would like to here a well reasoned argument as to how Trump comes out on top in 2024

Democrats can go after conservatives without any pushback because they know it will take nearly a decade for anything to get to SCOTUS, and by that time, the carnage they have caused has had the effect they wanted.

They stole 2020 because they knew nothing of substance would reach SCOTUS in time to reverse it.

Ditto for Kari Lake. She is still bogged down with corrupt, local democrat hack judges.

“They want him to be the GOP nominee but to be so weakened by scandal and depleted of finances that he easily gets clobbered in the general election.”

Trump has scandals hurled at him 24/7 since 2016. Does he appear weakened to you?

I have heard that line so many times from all the deep, deep, thinkers that it is getting tiresome.

But by the time they do, it will be too late for Trump, which is the whole point of the exercise. Not to convict and imprison Trump, but to derail his candidacy long enough to miss the 2024 Presidential Electio

Ain't going to work.

Haven't you been paying attention?

Every time they pull one of these corrupt indictments, President Trumps polling numbers go up.

It's having the opposite affect that you describe.

“Trump has scandals hurled at him 24/7 since 2016. Does he appear weakened to you?”

Yes he is weakened. He lost the 2018 mid-terms in colossal fashion. He could not get re-elected in 2020, despite the power of incumbency. Many of his high profile candidates in 2022 went down in flames. He’s stuck in the low to mid 40s when matched against Biden in 2024.

While yesterday’s indictments and Bragg’s indictments are a joke, the Mara Lago matter is quite serious. We need a candidate who can be laser focused on taking out Biden / Harris, and not be preoccupied with legal matters that are growing exponentially.
