What’s more important: Keeping the lights on 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, or solving the climate crisis?
That is in many ways a terrible qBut absent major breakthroughs in carbon-capture technology, we’ll eventually need to shutter most if not all of those gas plants to avoid disastrous temperature jumps. Scientists say we need to cut carbon pollution nearly in half by 2030.
Could we get started ditching gas sooner — and save some money — by accepting a few more blackouts for the next few years?
It’s a heretical question in power-grid circles. When I posed it to John Moura — director of reliability assessment and performance analysis at the North American Electric Reliability Corp. — he only half-jokingly described it as “a dagger to the heart.”uestion, for reasons I’ll discuss shortly.

"solving climate change will require sacrifices — even if only small ones — for the sake of the greater good."
Would occasional cutting the power to newsrooms help the reliability of news?
So their premise is there is a problem? And the 🐑🐑🐑 fall in line
Occasional blackouts of Washington DC would solve a lot of problems.
If one means will the climate stop changing if we have occasional black outs...then no.
If one means will we prevent some impending disastorous climate change by having black outs...the answer is also no.
In case 1 its because the climate will continue to change whether we have black outs or not.
In case 2 we can not prevent the sky from falling if the sky is not falling.
I’m all for full time permanent rolling blackouts for Libtards especially California whose government is too stupid to produce their own power or water
We should restrict their water after the breakup of the states
Oh yeah that will TOTALLY work. How dare anyone question the government’s infallible solutions?

What a joke. Who gives a crap about climate we’re here to enjoy our lives!
PS - California needs to be “regulated”
Bahahahahahahaha
Common sense goes a long way in addressing problems.
How about cutting off the oxygen supply for the Climate Nazis…. Let the live off recycled exhaust and be grateful.
It’s nice and dark already out here in God’s Country. Lights out about 9pm - wake with the dawn and get busy!
But don’t tell these dopes. I do NOT want them as neighbors. ;)
I think all Democrat controlled big cities, should do what is right for the climate. Cut power to the large cities. Forget black outs, brown outs, just go back to pre electricity days, They survived, so can these people.
I’d support regular blackouts...frequent blackouts...prolonged blackouts...in Congressional districts represented by Rats. Nowhere else.
I think the rule of thumb is to do whatever is more inconvenient. Daily blackouts at random times would help the environment best.
You beat me by 16 seconds.
Nothing will solve a problem that does not exist
“for the next few years”
Try forever.
“What about people who require a constant amount of electricity for FReeping? Should they just die?”
Ever been here when FR is down? LOL! ;)
Temporary blackouts make no difference. all on or all off to make any difference. In fact blackouts add to the load and total power requirements. Why?
