~ Hall of Heroes ~ Henry Breault Info from here. | | Henry Breault (October 14, 1900 - December 5, 1941) was a United States Navy sailor who received the Medal of Honor for his actions while serving aboard the USS O-5 (SS-66) (US Submarine O-5). Henry Breault was born in Putnam, Connecticut, on October 14, 1900. He enlisted in the British Royal Navy at sixteen years of age and, after serving under the White Ensign for four years, joined the U.S. Navy. On October 28, 1923 Torpedoman Second Class Breault was a member of the crew of USS O-5 (SS-66) when that submarine was sunk in a collision in the Panama Canal. Though he could have escaped, Breault chose to assist a shipmate, and remained inside the sunken submarine until both were rescued more than a day later. For his "heroism and devotion to duty" on this occasion, Henry Breault was awarded the Medal of Honor. He received his Medal of Honor from President Calvin Coolidge, in ceremonies at the White House, Washington, D.C., on March 8, 1924. Following twenty years of U.S. Navy service, Henry Breault became ill with a heart condition. He died at the Naval Hospital at Newport, Rhode Island, on December 4, 1941. He was buried in Saint Mary Cemetery in Putnam, Connecticut. | Rank and organization: Torpedoman Second Class, U.S. Navy. Born: October 14, 1900, Putnam, Conn. Accredited to: Vermont. G.O. No.: 125, February 20, 1924. Citation: For heroism and devotion to duty while serving on board the U.S. submarine O-5 at the time of the sinking of that vessel. On the morning of 28 October 1923, the O-5 collided with the steamship Abangarez and sank in less than a minute. When the collision occurred, Breault was in the torpedo room. Upon reaching the hatch, he saw that the boat was rapidly sinking. Instead of jumping overboard to save his own life, he returned to the torpedo room to the rescue of a shipmate whom he knew was trapped in the boat, closing the torpedo room hatch on himself. Breault and Brown remained trapped in this compartment until rescued by the salvage party 31 hours later. (Medal presented by President Coolidge at the White House on 8 March 1924.)

Hiya radu! Good but HOT weekend, went over to hang with Robin and the pups and to do a few 'guy' things for her. We needed to work on her flower irrigation system in the backyard and it was 100, so we did what we could and then retreated inside to recoup and then finished later.
Just relaxin' now and FReepin'.
How wuz your & kittehs weekend?

Good evening, radu...
YES! Still raining and 1” 7/10 in my gauge. Creek is high and I might venture out there to see what I can see in a bit.
Man, that canadian smoke sure gets around. Bad that it’s getting as far south as you.

OOF! Too hot for yardwork! A long extension cord and a shop light to set up so you can see at night to do the work are in order. LOL Thank goodness for fans and A/C to sit in front of to recuperate.
It’s been a sauna here but we had a “cold” front move through yesterday that brought the temps down to upper 80s this weekend. I was able to get the front yard at the old house mowed yesterday evening after I got home from the museum. good thing I was able to do it then. The air is so thick with smoke today, I’m still coughing and blowing my nose after making a quick trip to the grocery store.
Interesting day at the museum yesterday. A PBS crew was there to interview a few local WWII vets. They putting together a documentary about the Tennessee Maneuvers and Camp Forrest to be aired next year on the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The vets all trained here for the invasion of Europe and talked about their experiences.
The kitties are quiet at the moment but were rambunctious earlier. The new moon cranks them up as much as the full moon. More so, actually. I just do my best to stay out of their way. LOL

That’s another inch you’ve gotten since last evening! YAY!!!
I hope the creek has risen enough to do a job cleaning things out.
That smoke is going to plague everyone for quite a while yet. The jet stream kept it north of us for a little while but when it dipped back down yesterday, it hauled a BUNCH of smoke with it. It’s been really bad several times this year but today is about the worst I’ve seen it here so far.
