DeSantis says Trump not only didn’t fulfill major promise, it got worse
Fox News ^ | 7/16/23 | Jessica Chasmar

Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis rattled off a list of what he deemed to be broken 2016 campaign promises by former President Donald Trump, saying he’d rather attack the GOP front-runner on the issues than personality.

"Substantively, we've been very frank about our differences with respect to the former president," the Florida governor said. "I mean, for example, he promised to drain the swamp – it got worse. He did not drain the swamp.

"He promised to have Mexico pay for a border wall. They did like 50 miles of wall. There's massive expanses still there," he continued. "He said he was going to eliminate the national debt. They added almost $8 trillion to the debt in four years.

"And of course, in 2020, he turned the country over to Dr. [Anthony] Fauci, and those lockdowns and the borrowing and printing really set us on a bad course," he added. "I've been very, very frank at that."

Again, as with so many Trump followers, nothing is ever his fault: it’s the Deep State, it’s Pelosi and McConnell, it’s the GOPe, it’s the MSM, it’s everybody’s fault but the guy who said he would drain the swamp, build the wall and make Mexico pay for it, etc.

Trump promised and didn’t deliver, and why is really immaterial. Because none of the forces arrayed against Trump have gone anywhere, which is why he will never be President, and if he by some miracle does manage to win, he’ll be foiled again at every turn again. If he’s not in jail, that is.

Sums it up well. None of us are happy about it, but it's like having an old car that stinks, and strands you a lot. You had some great memories back when it was new, but at this point it's a crap shoot, at best.

Trump never threw me, kicked me, bit me, or turned his back on me. The GOP did that multiple times over the past 40+ years. I am no longer a registered Republican because of it. I got tired of being stabbed in the back by the same party that wants my money, and my vote. I don't want to be a part of a party that refuses to respect me enough to even want to try to protect my ballot from voter fraud.

You're expecting miracles from whoever it is you are supporting for President. I know it isn't Trump. That's pretty obvious. I can't help but think that whoever it is, the person will wow you with words, claim they will work wonders, while doing nothing but shitting blunders, and being rolled over by the Congressional Democrats. Good luck with that, and good luck with any Republican Presidential candidate ever being allowed to get enough electoral votes to actually be elected. Voter fraud is the law of the land. Democrats and Republicans made sure of it on January 6th.

And comparing DeSantis and Trump's social lives, and lifestyles is pretty ridiculous. Ronnie was 9 years old when Trump bought Mar-a-lago. Trump is 32 years older than DeSantis. They were born in different times, and different places. I'm a year younger than Trump, and I've got two sons older than DeSantis, and just like Ron, I wouldn't vote for them either.

Just because DeSantis has had a 2 to 1 Republican majority in the Florida State Legislature, doesn't mean he'll be effective on the Federal level. He's been able to get whatever he wants passed, because he's had that majority. He's never served in office when Democrats were in control, not even when he was in the House of Representatives. And he's managed to use that majority in Florida's Legislature to his advantage, getting them to change the Sunshine laws so that any of his past and future travel, people he meets with, etc., won't be accessible to the public. And like Rino Charlie Crist, he got the Legislature to change the Resign-to-Run law, so that when he crashes and burns, he can slither back to the Governor's office. Anyone that uses the State Legislature for their own personal and political gain, in my mind, is selfish, and self-serving.

Trump has had a very expensive education as to how the Deep State bureaucracy really works. DeSantis hasn’t, so he really doesn’t know what he is talking about. Based on where his support is coming from, I suspect he would cave like most do. Trump didn’t, but he is better prepared to fight them than DeSantis.

He was retarded? I don't see it that way. But Trump got played even if Flynn was retarded. They weren't trying to do Trump a favor and he showed them his soft side. That's all they needed to see to understand his vulnerabilities to Swamp machinations.

I never saw the left and the administrative state advance their agenda as fast and gain more power than they did during the Trump administration

For what, a guy who didn’t even try to lock her up, didn’t even try to have Mexico pay for the wall, didn’t even really try to fight the deep state, and passed executive orders that instituted gun control measures, gave out free rent, gave out free college loans, tore down all regulations for vaccine definition and safety, and let the election be stolen without even trying to prove his legal case after he had the necessary legal standing.

Again, all you have done there is repeat the media. YOu want him to act like emperor instead of president. You want an efficient govt that gets things done quickly? That is not what our founding fathers designed with intent.

Didn’t try to lock her up? There were more important things to be done and limited resources.

One item of gun control, when there were so many other battle on the plate. You can’t do them all. It was an unimportant issue in the big picture.

Let the election be stolen?. What did you want him to do? He took every avenue that he could AND STILL IS.

Do you know how Trump got rid of a lot of regulation? I do. But you have to dig deep, not read the headlines. There was a law passed in the 90’s that after the burcracies had interpreted passed law, the intrepreation had to go back to congress for final approval. Not done, then the regulation went out the door.

The prison in Honduras that took back a lot of gang members we exported, that was all Trump and his team.

MAY YOU SOMEDAY BE IN HIS SHOES. I just can’t believe how much you repeat the media.

AGAIN, grow up, be an adult. Get some wisdom.

We absolutely DON”T WANT an efficient govt like you want.

Other than making sure that the Democrats win in 2024, what, exactly, is the reason that DeSantis is still running?

Completely backwards. It's Trump and his people who claim miracles will happen if Trump somehow gets back in office. What are the latest claims, he will end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours, he will obliterate the deep state in just 3 months, or some such hooey? Oh, and he's going to implement paper ballots everywhere too, as soon as he's elected, keeps promising that every rally. It's obviously a joke being played on you, sorry you can't see it.

Ridiculous. These are conservative criticisms of Trump, coming from the right. The leftist media would never express concerns like this. Here is my post again:

For what, a guy who didn’t even try to lock her up, didn’t even try to have Mexico pay for the wall, didn’t even really try to fight the deep state, and passed executive orders that instituted gun control measures, gave out free rent, gave out free college loans, tore down all regulations for vaccine definition and safety, and let the election be stolen without even trying to prove his legal case after he had the necessary legal standing.

More childish insults, just like your hero Trump. Wisdom is not wanting some phony jack ass like him back as President again.

Now he wants me to accept gay marriage and live in a 15 minute city bombarded with 5G!

AGain, where do you get that stuff except from the media?

Where is Trump promoting gay marriage? prove your point. Note I said promoting it and making you accept it.

We used to have the old style concept of toleration. That is Trumps position. We used to have don’t ask, don’t tell in the military, it worked.

WE DON’T LIVE IN A PERFECT WORLD.

Do you really want an efficient government where Trump could mandate all the things you want? Think about it.

Your post is another installment of fiction. Trump was/is not a physician, scientist, dictator who could remove any official at whim in the midst of a crisis.

Dr. Fauci served as NIAID Director from 1984 to 2022. Dr. Fauci advised seven Presidents on HIV/AIDS and many other domestic and global health issues.

The prior six Presidents continued Dr Fauci in his role. Why would President Trump have assumed at the start that Fauci was a corrupt, venial mountebank? Unlike the prior 6 Presidents Trump did see through Fauci after a few months.

Trump’s job was to expedite and he did a great job with supplies and facilities. Mike Pence worked with Fauci. Once the President saw Fauci was inconsistent and arbitrary he started sidelining him. It would have been a disaster to have removed Fauci in the middle of the COVID episode. Citizens would have panicked. The President refused to mandate vaccinations, masks or shut downs. He and Pence made a request for isolation for two weeks. Even that was a request not a mandate.

The President clearly wanted therapy with off-label use of proven drugs, or convalescent plasma, not a vaccine. It was only when the FDA completely shut down all the other options to force the use of the vaccine & dangerous new (ineffective) drugs that Trump started operation warp speed. Had he not been blocked & lied to by venial corrupt Globalists he would not have done so. It was a mistake but as a layman being managed by those who were plotting against Americans he was fooled. You suggest Trump should have been aware of the research on mRNA. That is a very specialized area, not familiar to laymen. Also the MSM, pharmy industry and medical establishment suppressed mention of the questionable nature of MRNA vaccines as well as the morbidity/mortality encountered in their prior use & in testing.

I have to question why you go to so much trouble to lie about what went on during COVID, to put all of the onus on a non medical man who did his best while being fed lies in an area he was not technically able to evaluate.

Where is the blame for the 6 other Presidents, for the medical associations that connived in the process, for the corrupt NIH? Whose interests are you advancing in trying to assign blame to Trump. You are certainly acting in a way that benefits the left.

If he hadn’t had the election stolen from him, there would be no war in Ukraine today. A lot of things would have been different if the election had been given to the person who actually won it. You can’t say otherwise, can you?

You didn’t think about anything I posted.

You don’t understand history, our founding fathers, human nature and warriors.

IT IS ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT.

AGain, do you really want and efficient govt that gives YOU everything YOU want? And you think Trump should by himself provide them for you. It is his responsibility and not yours? He is doing his share, are you doing yours?

No. DeSantis was a JAG. A lawyer. He appeared in court & advised the accused. While he was doing desk work Trump was building a collection of superb buildings in America and across the world working much longer hours. Your snide comments about parties expose your ignorance and your bias.
