EXCLUSIVE: Scientists who denounced Covid lab leak theory as a conspiracy secretly believed it was 'highly likely' the virus escaped Chinese research facility, leaked messages obtained by DailyMail.com show

* House Republicans published messages showing doctors said lab leak 'likely'

* Defective redactions have meant more private Slack chats have been uncovered

********************************************************

A renowned scientist who led the condemnation of the Covid lab leak theory privately believed it was 'highly likely', leaked messages show.

Dr Kristian Andersen, a Danish evolutionary biologist, co-authored a now-notorious research paper published in March 2020 that denounced the origin scenario as a conspiracy theory and xenophobic.

Yet Slack messages obtained by DailyMail.com show how just weeks before the publication of that paper, Dr Andersen told colleagues the idea of a lab leak was 'not some fringe theory' and was, in fact, 'highly likely' the genesis of the pandemic.

Separate, publicly-available communications between the virologist and his co-authors show how the group backed the natural origin theory - the idea the virus jumped from an animal to a person in the wild - for 'political' reasons and feared pinning the blame on the Chinese lab would cause a ‘s***show’ and threaten future funding of virus manipulation research.

Critics say the messages show how the scientific community conspired to censor debate about the origins of the pandemic, but the scientists involved claim they changed their minds between sending the messages and writing the paper.

Dr Andersen and the other scientists involved in publishing 'The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2' paper on March 17, 2020, were asked to testify before the House Oversight Select Subcommittee on Tuesday.

But only Dr Andersen and co-author Dr Robert Garry, a respected microbiologist who works at Tulane University in New Orleans, actually did.

House Republicans grilled the two doctors, citing the newly disclosed communications between researchers in early 2020 as evidence of a cover-up - something the scientists strongly refuted.

“Dr Kristian Andersen, a Danish evolutionary biologist, co-authored a now-notorious research paper published in March 2020 that denounced the origin scenario as a conspiracy theory and xenophobic.”

“the scientists involved claim they changed their minds between sending the messages and writing the paper.”

Ergo, a sound conclusion became a “conspiracy theory” and “xenophobic”, at the exact moment that these arbiters of truth changed their minds.

I seriously doubt that it “escaped”

Way too many “accidents” and “coincidences” these days

Yes, the supposed “escape” was planned long in advance. Years. The “vaccines” were planned to follow after the “escape.”

The biggest evidence against the “lab leak” story is that the earliest cases of Covid were centered at or near the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market several miles away.

https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abp8715
“The Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan was the early epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Had the virus escaped from the lab, the earliest cases would have been clustered around the lab area, not the market.

While it is possible for researchers who are doing experiments on a virus to accidently catch the virus, this is highly unlikely since the lab operates under strict biosafety protocols.

Even if there were a lab leak of a virus under study, that would not be a “smoking gun” that anyone created the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In order to create a brand new virus, we would need a far better understanding of protein structure, function, and interactions than we currently have. Because viruses cause disease through the functions of their proteins. Even trying to piece together existing parts of viruses to develop something that could cause a human pandemic is a hit-or-miss activity. Without extensive testing, there is no way to know if a virus would have the desired activity. There is no evidence that the lab in Wuhan conducted tests of Frankenstein viruses to see if any would have pandemic potential. Furthermore, if a virus were altered or patched together in that fashion—or if it was completely fabricated from scratch—the fact that it isn’t natural would be picked up immediately the first time the virus was sequenced. To a molecular biologist, the evidence that a genetic element has been altered is as obvious as the evidence that a board results from the unnatural alteration of a tree.

Did not skate. It was deliberately released. The lab leak theory is a fallback position from their original position that it happened from bat soup at the market. That was a deliberately lie. When that lie was no longer tenable, their fallback position was lab leak. When it became obvious it was existing in the lab, and was created there, that leaves you two choices deliberately released, or leaked. The fact that they were denying its existence tells me this is a fallback position. It was deliberately released into the wild, not that deadly of a virus, but it was designed to give the Chinese an excuse to shut down riots and lock everyone indoor. Riots have been spreading in Wuhan and Shanghai and threatened to go nationwide. In America, Donald Trump was a runaway freight train for reelection. Releasing the virus was their way to kill both of those problems.

IOW, they lied.

Exactly. A lying scientist has no credibility. Their previous work is suspect as would be any future work.
