Allan Lichtman – famous for correctly predicting the outcome of every U.S. presidential election since 1984 (barring 2000) – says Donald Trump is now the mainstream in the Republican Party, and no other GOP presidential hopeful stands a chance of winning the party’s nomination.
The American University professor, himself a fierce critic of Trump, said ex-MAGA rival Ron DeSantis was an “abysmal candidate” who lacks Trump’s appeal and personal charm.
Lichtman was clear that other candidates, sometimes described as standard-bearers of the “Republican mainstream”, had no chance – and were no longer the mainstream. “Here’s another mistake that all the commentators make… They pose Donald Trump against the so-called ‘Republican mainstream’,” he explained.
“[S]upposedly Chris Christie is a ‘mainstream Republican’, right? Wrong! Donald Trump is the mainstream,” he continued, adding that Trump “is the new mainstream.”
The historian’s assessment echoes Trump’s own comments that the GOP is “never going back to the party of Paul Ryan, Karl Rove and Jeb Bush.”
Lichtman said “the only way a DeSantis or a [Mike] Pence or a Tim Scott could possibly become the Republican nominee” is if the Republican National Committee (RNC) somehow strips Trump of the nomination, possibly following federal convictions. He noted that there is no legal bar to Trump running for the presidency however, even from behind bars.
Massive election fraud could beat President Trump and that is the democrat’s plan.
Trump’s ideas were generally “mainstream” for Republican voters but I don’t think its mainstream for elected officials

The GOP did it to themselves by being a milque-toast government class party. The American Torres. They did nothing very effectively and they were always afraid of their own shadow - because for them the worst outcome wasn’t degrading the nation or its people, the worst outcome was loss of position.
The Democrats were always a more ruthless party, but it being so they were also far more dynamic than the GOP. They had goals beyond just securing their position. They were evil, but that wasn’t necessarily detrimental to their prospects. Mankind, from inception, was prone to making horrible, destructive choices. The Democrats were right in line with that.
The GOP has only itself to blame that now their own voters are endangering their survival..

I guess it depends on the definition of “new”. Trump is very much like Reagan, what he’s not like are the Bushes. As far as I know, Reagan was the Mainstream of the GOP, and the Bushes were far from it (and had to struggle to fool people at election time).
The ‘Mainstream’ of the Republican Party didn’t change, and neither did the crap candidates that the GOPe keeps throwing at the base (now a bunch of Ukraine Warmongers). It’s just rare that the base is strong enough to get their person nominated, although 2024 is already a done deal.

The Marxist Democrats will have NO compunctions at cheating and fixing along with every media trick one can think of during the election and as we are not in control of the federal executive with will be sitting like we were in December of 2020 whining on TV.

Republicans went full retard on building the rino base. There’s no one that even pretends to act conservative when it comes to a budget or protecting our borders. Whether you like Trump or not, he’s been more trustworthy than any republican to act on his promises.
I think Trump would pardon himself before that happens.
Trump seems to me unnecessarily reactionary and such, and I do notice he is getting up there in years, although thankfully he seems to be very healthy for that age and still sharp of mind. Also his over the top reactions while it gets him in trouble also helps him in an indirect way. The Left is addicted to manipulating the public with the threat of slander and name calling if the person dares disagree. However, Trump seems oblivious to this manipulation and just slams them right back with ridicule. If they were all well disciplined, it would stop there with Trump and his critics both looking a bit uncouth. But the Left can't handle their manipulation not working and instinctively do it harder and harder as it doesn't seem to connect. Finally they are so obnoxious and treat him so badly they reveal who they are...who they really were the whole time. And this is what makes those sick of being mistreated love Trump. And the worse they treat him, the more slack we give him for being a bit of a jerk himself and respect that he is taking the blows on our behalf.
