Twitter’s traffic has plunged since billionaire Elon Musk took control of the social media platform last fall, as longtime tweeters are migrating to alternative platforms such as Meta’s Threads.
In a tweet Sunday, Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare, an internet services company, posted a chart showing Twitter has been on the decline since the start of 2023.
Twitter’s skidding numbers arrive as Meta officially launches Threads, which is widely seen as a new competitor to Twitter and debuted last week.
As of Monday, Twitter is currently ranked 37 in Cloudflare’s list of top 100 domains, which coincides with the unpopular changes Musk has made to the site in recent months and the launch of Threads and other Twitter alternatives.
Twitter, which Musk officially purchased last October, drew the ire of its users earlier this month when the platform set a rate limit on the number of posts different account tiers could read each day, the Guardian reported.
The limit was set at 6,000 daily posts for users who are Twitter Blue subscribers and 600 for nonsubscribers.
Musk has overseen the platform’s various changes, including implementing a different version of Twitter Blue in which users have to pay a monthly subscription to receive a verification check.
Musk also rolled back moderation rules and reinstated previously suspended accounts — notably former President Trump.

Forcing everyone to sign up for Twitter in order to read threads?
HELL NO.
Numbers are down because there are still thousands of Deplorables that are banned.
The headline states “less traffic”, but the chart just shows a rank, with no measurable amount of traffic placed. So Twitter dropped from #32 to #40. It is hard to measure variables when everything you compare it to is also a variable.
This is driving the Left bonkers as they want a platform where they can shadow ban and shove conservative thought into a dark corner. As well as anybody else who does not parrot their narrow views of things.
Looks like they are going to flock to the new platform of Zuckerberg where they can have their echo chamber back again.
Good riddance.
He did eliminate a lot of bot traffic...
Current Twitter limits
Direct Messages (daily): The limit is 500 messages sent per day.
Tweets: 2,400 per day. The daily update limit is further broken down into smaller limits for semi-hourly intervals. Retweets are counted as Tweets.
Changes to account email: 4 per hour.
Following (daily): The technical follow limit is 400 per day. Please note that this is a technical account limit only, and there are additional rules prohibiting aggressive following behavior.
Following (account-based): Once an account is following 5,000 other accounts, additional follow attempts are limited by account-specific ratios.

That's good. Musk went to war with the bots.
I signed up for a Threads account, but don’t plan to actually use it. I just didn’t want anyone else to grab the username that I have used on nearly all social media for almost 20 years.
Not true.
Exactly. It is NOT just due to this Threads going live.
I had 3-4 twitter accounts that I would check most days. No more.
I mean, if you are doing over 2,400 Tweets per day, you really need to get a life.
The real intent of these limits however is to stop all the bots and spam. Before Musk took over and when Trump was on the platform, there would be thousands of nasty replies to every Trump Tweet within seconds of posting, almost all of them sent by bots.
Maybe Musk is trying to stop his competitors from using AI to scan Twitter.
Bots have gone bye-bye?
I admire Elon Musk and wish him well. I check Twitter every day.
All the libtards are leaving for controlled speech platforms where their idiocy won’t be challenged
End of story
You know it and I know it. Snowflakes on the run good riddance
Musk just eliminated the fake bots.
They were weaponized. That's why Jack never got rid of them.
Yeah, probably bot traffic…
Important point to raise. Thanks.
We don’t always think of all the spin-off effects of trying
to get things back under control.
I admire Musk for trying to make a difference.
