Remember to use common courtesy when posting to FR. Leave off the insults and flames, name calling, etc.

We are conservatives. Be respectful to your debate adversary (fellow FReeper). For example, do not accuse them of being a "Putinista", "commrade", "murderer", "baby-killer", etc, just because he may have a difference of opinion whether or not the US government should be involved in a controversial foreign war where we were not attacked.

Likewise, things in the presidential primary are getting over-heated. We want to be sure we come out of this with a Republican president, house and senate. The only way we can accomplish that is to unify the Republican Party. We can't destroy our own candidates. Whoever it is will need to pull us ALL together. Keep the ultimate goal in sight - Freedom! We are not here to fight each other. We are here as allies to fight for God, family, country, and FREEDOM! As William Wallace said in Brave Heart, "Unite the clans!".

Your personal favorite may be Ron DeSantis, mine happens to be President Trump. But if DeSantis receives the nomination, I'll support him, as I hope most other FReepers will.

Incidentally, we are getting way too much profanity. This is NOT DU, this is NOT CNN - (in deep voice) this IS FR!

Finally, if someone says STOP, then STOP! If someone asks you to take them off your ping list, then take them off! If someone asks you to stop posting to them, the adult and polite thing to do is to accommodate them.

I don’t think we’re being asked to support DeSantis (or Trump, who happens to be my pick in this race.)

I think the request has to do with civility in discussing it.

I know there are people who like snarl and stir up crap from behind their keyboards just for the sheer hell of it and they cause a lot of trouble on FR.

A perfect recent example is a thread from about a week ago about Americans in China. I posted that I had visited there in 2001 on a work trip but didn’t intend to go back.

Some poster (I have forgotten the name) replied asking about having to squat over a hole in the ground to relieve oneself and eating dog.

While the questions were asked in a somewhat crude manner, I politely (bordering on friendly) answered his questions from my perspective.

His response to that was nasty, over-the-top, sprinkled with insults and referred to my polite reply as a “diatribe.”

I could immediately see that this was some immature little guy out to stir up discontent for whatever weird reason. I dispatched him with a post telling him to take his trolling elsewhere.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few people like that on here. They get off to it. And I’ve seen them on the Trump-DeSantis threads in fairly good numbers.

There are a few shills who post daily on how well the Ukrainians are destroying Russian troops

Wouldn't it be more in keeping with Mr. Robinson's admonition to call the Freepers you happen to disagree with something other than "shills"?

People post articles regarding the war in Ukraine from multiple sources. Some of us have observed that some sources repeat Russian Ministry of Defense statements, and some sources repeat Ukrainian Ministry of Defense statements.

Some posters post material from organizations which attempt to track what is happening in the war based on open source intelligence data, like photographs or satellite images. Other posters share materials from local media or individuals in Ukraine or Russia.

Some posters repeatedly post material from sources which closely follow known Russian propaganda talking points.

Those posts do little to advance any discussion about what the role of the USA should be in Ukraine.

I have become suspicious the FR has been corrupted by those who oppose us and have managed to become a FReeper today with a sign on date that is 25 years old.

That is easy enough to check. I'll use you as an example.

1. Click on their name to see their home page. Your sign-up date is October 1, 2005.
2. Click on "In Forum" to see their posting history.
3. Click on "Next Page" to go back one page. The link in the address bar will change from a first page link to "index?more" link. Yours is "more=126635512".
4. Go back to half of the index number. In your case, change the first two digits from 12 to 6 and press enter. Your "more=" is now 66635512 and the first displayed post is now from 12/16/2009.
5. Now cut the "more=" in half again by changing the leading 6 to a 3. Your first displayed post is now 2/11/2006, getting closer to your Sign Up Date.
6. Now changing the leading 3 to a 1 brings up the message "Your query returned no results." We've gone beyond your earliest post.
7. By doing this, it's obvious that you are a long-time frequent poster.
8. If you were a troll using a dormant ID, your posting history would have run out long before cutting the index number in half and then in half again.

What drove the point home for me in understanding Jim's position on keeping an eye on speech and preventing it from spiraling out of control, is that while the FBI may show up at your door because of a post...they will also show up at Jim's because he's the proprietor of FR.

While not arising to the level of getting the FBI's attention, several years ago a "fellow" Freeper told me to throw myself down a well because they disagreed with my position on something. Telling another Freeper to go kill themselves because of a difference of opinion (and one in which they actually made an incorrect assumption about me, no less) shouldn't be ignored. That kind of vile depredation doesn't even belong on a loathsome site like DU...let alone FR.

It can't be a free-for-all anything goes on a privately owned site. There are limits. Requesting that people keep the debate, at least somewhat, civil isn't unreasonable.

Something should been done about this a long time back. The sort of civil discourse typically expected around here has really dropped, changing the atmosphere of the whole site and not in a good way. The Ukraine war threads have been the worst, no objectivity - people running from thread to thread calling each other Nazis and Putin Puffers. None of that is even discussion, but advocacy and downright zealotry, which in the past wasn't tolerated and for good reason. Past time all that stuff came to a full stop.
