Donald Trump's steadfastness regarding Supreme Court appointments has accomplished more in one week that movement conservatives did in fifty years.
The Supreme Court handed down three major decisions this week, limiting an executive order that fabricated presidential authorization to forgive billions of dollars in school loans; denying governmental authority to compel people to create works that violate their free speech and freedom of religion; and prohibiting schools from considering the race of applicants in admissions in public and private institutions.
There are two very good summaries of these three cases, here on AT by Andrea Widberg and in Real Clear Politics by Professor Charles Lipson. Dissents by justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, were so badly written and reasoned that law professor Ilya Somin was inspired to tweet, ”Having read the dissents, I’m even more against affirmative action in judicial selection.”
For most of us these were welcome outcomes, and while Senators Charles Grassley and Mitch McConnell played an important role in keeping Merrick Garland off the court and allowing President Trump to get three justices confirmed, the main honor goes to him.
As Mike David reminds us:
Trump’s flawless Gorsuch nomination and confirmation united weak and wobbly Senate Republicans to run over the Democrats’ filibuster and lower the vote threshold from 60 to 51.
This comforted Kennedy enough to retire, so Trump could replace Kennedy with his protégé -- and still keep weak and wobbly Senate Republicans onboard.
(There’s no chance another Alito or Thomas could have been confirmed in 2018, with Collins, Murkowski, Flake, and others being so weak and wobbly.)

There will be jokes about Brandons nomination for many years.
You know you live in a fascist state when following the Constitution by the highest court in the land becomes a revolutionary act.
..and it was needed because congress and presidents almost never follow the constitution.
I voted for Trump almost exclusively because I believed he would appoint conservative judges, and he did. I was and still am willing to overlook nearly any person issues to insure I live out the rest of my life in a country with a conservative supreme court.
I lived the entire first half of my life under liberal supreme court tyranny. The rouge supreme court of my youth would simply declare stuff unconstitutional at random and there was nothing that could be done to stop them. Trump ended that, and I will now spend the rest of my life smiling at what he accomplished.
Amen. The window into the truth of how he tried to make America great again.
Winning!....feels so good.
The TDS DeSanctus pushers are not impressed.
Regarding the (hopefully) end to affirmative action, I recently read a discussion on the ‘after action’ reports written by the justices who do so and one comment struck me as interesting. Paraphrasing the comment “it is to note that the oldest negro on the Supreme Court just (essentially) called the youngest negro on the Court an affirmative action hire.”
Substantial truth in that comment as the three dissenting judges are on the Court because of AA.
Funny now the left calls following the Constitution “extreme” after so many years of laws being what they feel they should be.
Yeah, they really handled the blatant theft of our elections well. Good thing they decided nobody has standing on the overt subversion of our vote.
Clarice ping
Too bad they were the three wise monkeys when ti came to the stolen election.
THe jokes are already starting.
Kitanji Jackson cannot hide the fact that she is a lefty indoctrinated mental midget compared to Gorsuch , Coney-Barrett, Kavanaugh and the Great Clarence Thomas.
She writes worse than a law school lefty sophomore.
We can thank Trump and that stubborn RBG... The lefties loved her, but her selfish wish to be replaced by Hillary instead of Obama cost the lefties bigtime and the court now tilts right, instead of center right.
I remember after obamacare and same sex marriage decisions the lib media chirped “its the law of the land” for weeks.......made me wanna puke.

And thats what affirmative action hiring policies get you.......a person that has absolutely no business in the position they were given.
All it does is weaken whatever the mission is.
Saw it for 30 years with the DoD. Instead of the best candidate being awarded a position through merit, it went to a less qualified because they were a certain class.
All that does is make the people working around the the unqualified hire have to work that much harder to make up for the weak link.
Used to piss me off to no end.
You better believe it. This and the wall...though still incomplete...will be his legacy. Plus showing just how corrupt our government has gotten.
Trump is a private business man who understands the long game. Judges keep your administration alive for a long long time. He wisely said what he was going to do and basically didn’t talk about it much. He just did it.
The three chicks show the problem with AA, all three are AA hires and weak.
Merit matters.
