The shoplifting epidemic taking over America with a $100B annual price tag
NYPost ^ | 7/1/23 | Jared Klickstein

The stories are everywhere: Walmart store closures in Portland and Chicago; an epidemic of drug store thefts in New York. In Baltimore, a “landmark” grocery store shuts its doors after nearly 25 years in a community desperate for fresh food.

While in San Francisco, reports of big-box chains abandoning its downtown have become near-daily occurrences.

The cause: rampant, often organized, and seemingly consequenceless shoplifting.

Indeed, the US is deep in what many are calling an epidemic of thefts that cost retailers nearly $100 billion in 2021.

And this epidemic is impacting both the bottom lines and operational strategies of massive companies ranging from Macy’s to Ulta.

The only so,union is to raise the amount of “allowed theft” from $1000 per theft to $10,000 per theft. That’ll stop all the theft /s

That’s OK, because the perpetrators vote for Democrats.

He is right in his solution:

“Breaking this cycle requires detox and long-term drug treatment — even for those who refuse it.

In tandem, prosecutorial leniency, and no-cash bail must be abolished if we’re to have any chance of returning to a system where products are actually purchased, rather than pilfered.”

They are not shoplifters, they are raiders. Kill them for the predators they are and their raiding will stop.

The little piggies are being taught starting in Head Start that if you see something you want, JUST TAKE IT. America has gone for the Land of the Free to the Land of the Free Stuff. The illegal aliens see America as the land of the Big Piñata.

I saw where some pharmacies have ALL their stock inside locked shelves and employees must get the objects out and take to the cashier...

https://nypost.com/2023/06/30/shoplifting-in-nyc-so-bad-that-pints-of-ice-cream-now-have-anti-left-lids/

“Shoplifters are running so wild in the Big Apple that pints of high-end ice cream now have special locked lids to thwart cold-hearted crooks.

The Fairway supermarket on the Upper West Side is guarding $6 cartons of Häagen-Dazs with bolted plastic tops — which can only be removed with a device at the register — as other shops padlocked freezers of the treats.”

Just think of the added cost each retailer must pay for a anti-theft device for EVERY stocked item in addition to locking display cases.

I’ve said it before - we need FDR style CCC camps - far out in the country

Enforce vagrancy rules. Anyone picked up on the street goes to “camp” for 6 months, where they can work and/or be treated for addiction. Get them away from their dealers and away from the city.

Retail shopping will soon be relegated to the Internet with warehouse customers doing pre-paid basket store pickup or the merchant doing pre-paid home delivery. No money upfront, no merchandise.

Starting to look like the real dummies in America are the people who go to work and pay for things.

Maybe we should have massive stay homes and gather at stores to take our fair share.

Exactly! Warn a thief once and make it clear if they are caught doing it again a load of buckshot will be liberally applied to the bridge of their nose. Word will get around. Theft will slowly taper off at first until thieves realize that this is for real. Then it will come to an abrupt stop.
Except for a few diehards who will tempt fate.

“CCC camps - far out in the country”

Hey — I represent that. If you live in the country, you don’t want that scum, period.
