Democrat-run New York City is ready to hit residents and visitors alike with a “congestion charge” after federal approval was granted Monday for its first-in-the-nation plan to impose big tolls to drive into the most visited parts of Manhattan.

The program could begin as soon as the spring of 2024, bringing New York City into line with places like London, Singapore, and Stockholm that have implemented similar tax impositions on drivers simply going about their everyday business.

That’s a constitutional violation of free movement.

I wonder if that includes trucks delivering food daily?

Tolls are legal.

Trucks already, and for many years, have been paying $50 - $75 every time they cross a bridge in NYC.

Delivery trucks should leave their food/cargo at the Gates of the City.

Soon, only the rats and the illegals will be left in New York City.

Everything they touch.
And somehow, we’re not uniting to make them very afraid.

A $460 monthly tax that will hit poor people the hardest. Democrats always sticking up for the little guy.

If you look at why things are where they are, it’s mostly due to that location being cheaper to access than competing locations. Historically, the biggest cities developed along waterways. The easier the access, the bigger the city. The overhead of living in New York is huge. Thirty years ago, a NY garbage collector was making more than I was working as an engineer for Honeywell. None of the city’s overhead will ever reduce. It will only grow. This means that competing regions will be easier and cheaper to access.

A friend’s kids moved to NY city. The first night they were mugged, and he had to send them money. Then they lived several to a room and worked jobs that couldn’t support them living by themselves. When one of them got married he immediately moved. He said, “You’d be crazy to raise a kid in the city.” New York will be a long time dying but the knife has been inserted and twisted. It’s only a matter of time.

For decades people have been coming to America to escape Marxist authoritarianism.

Shouldn’t NYC be working to bring people back to the city instead of pushing them out?

I don’t think too many “poor people” are driving into Manhattan on a daily basis.

I’ll never visit NYC again. I’ll have to admit I have been there 12 times in the last 5 years as my daughter lives there. I love her, but she will need to come home to see me now.

Tolls are optional. There’s always a way to get to your destination without paying. This proposal blocks off public access entirely unless you pay.

Yes, you could be paying up to $34.00 to drive your car in a rat infested, violent crime haven, homeless urinating, pooping, weed smelling , cesspool. And God help you if you defend yourself against violence.

Just how do they plan to collect this? Toll booths, with thousands of cars backed up and idling every morning? They can’t just collect it from drivers crossing the GWB, because most of those will be headed for New England, not NYC.
