Florida's largest police union endorses DeSantis after supporting Trump in 2020: 'Choice could not be clearer'

The union called Florida Gov Ron DeSantis the 'most effective' governor in the country

The largest police union in the state of Florida announced Monday that it is backing Gov. Ron DeSantis for president after previously supporting former President Trump.

In a press release announcing the presidential endorsement, Florida Police Benevolent Association President John Kazanjian called DeSantis the "most effective governor in the nation" who will "make public safety a top priority in the White House."

"In major cities and communities across America, many Americans are grappling with increased crime rates that not only jeopardize public safety, but also threaten the quality of life in their communities," Kazanjian said. "The ideological experiment of defunding the police and scapegoating law enforcement for America’s social problems has failed."

Kazanjian called DeSantis the "one candidate for president who has a proven track record in enhancing public safety and investing in the essential men and women who help maintain public safety every day.

"For the over 30,000 men and women in the Florida Police Benevolent Association, the choice for us could not be clearer," he said.

In 2020 the police union endorsed Trump. So, will Trump and supporters call the police disloyal?

It’s not unusual for a home state to back its governor in
these types of situations.

Striken from the press release: “We still have to live under the thumb of RDS, so we’re making nice for now.”

Trump supporters are going to say what choice did the police union have, he’s the governor of the state and wields immense power over the state police and funding to the counties. Trump supporters are also going to say that you’re a complete hack and pathetic. I think you’re really Bill Mitchell or Cardillo in disguise.

This probably has more to do with the fact DeSantis has the ability to direct resources to the police and
Trump does not. There’s a lot of politics in government and the police are part of government. Also, top level people in the police get appointed to this or that resume enhancer by the governor or by offices controlled by the governor. If Trump becomes a presidential candidate, I’d expect the endorsement to switch. But right now, the advantage is to stay local and hang with the governor.

Silly comment. Except for the state police, cops in Florida don’t work for Desantis.

Except for the state police, the funding is controlled by the city/county for whom the police work.

Local people endorse local guy who provides them money.

Not a surprise.

When large numbers of police in states other than DeSantis’s own start to endorse him over Trump, let me know.

“In 2020 the police union endorsed Trump. So, will Trump and supporters call the police disloyal?”

No. The term they use is “backstabbers”.

Wrong. The FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT is a state organization that divvies up state funds among local police.

Almost predicable. They didn't back DeSantis for President last time because he wasn't running for President.

“This probably has more to do with the fact DeSantis has the ability to direct resources to the police and

More to do with his support of good cops and DA’s and getting rid of bad cops and DA’s.

DeSantis walks the walk.

Union endorsements are pretty much worthless. The rank and file vote for who they want.

Wrong and wrong. This is the union.

A FLORIDA AGENCY IS NOT ALLOWED TO ENDORSE CANDIDATES!
