Lockdown Disaster: Reading, Math Scores for Middle Schoolers Plummet to Lowest Level in Decades

The average reading and math test scores for U.S. 13-year-olds have plummeted since 2020, according to data from National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The decline in math skills for children this age is “the single largest decline” in the past half century according to experts.

The average mathematics score for 13-year-olds declined nine points between the 2019 – 2020 and 2022 – 2023 school years, and the average reading score declined four points over the same time period of time, according to the NAEP.

“Green shoots,” a term used to describe signs of recovery during a downturn, “have not materialized, as we continue to see worrisome signs about student achievement and well-being more than two years after most students returned for in-person learning,” NCES Commissioner Peggy G. Carr said.

The lockdown accelerated a process that was already in progress. This is not an unintended consequence. It is a war or extermination.

Quick! More money for teachers and schools! We don’t spend enough for “our children”!

The nation, as a whole, should be moving to home schooling or some sort of School Choice. The government schools are universally bad — and bad in a thousand different ways. Parents can do better by themselves. There are so many resources, and if the government is going to tell you that “remote school” is suddenly a thing, and if they don’t know and don’t care about how that’s actually going, then why don’t parents step in and play that game as well? The parents will know. The parents will care. The big stumbling block is “the need for two incomes” and therefore no one can stay home and educate the kids. This is also a solvable problem. Putting up with under-performing school is stupid.

Note: the traditional argument against home school is that the kids will miss out on the “socialization” they get in a public school setting. Well, look around — the very best thing about home schooling is that your child will miss out on the “socialization” they get in a public school setting.

I sub at a school whereI used to teach. The Jr High kids are far behind in basic skills than where they should be—and they experienced the shutdown in 3rd or 4th grade. The kids behind them, now in 4th or 5th grade, are even further behind. On top of that, the kids, with some exceptions of course, have a very poor work ethic.

Emails Show Biden Admin KNEW Vaccines Didn’t Stop COVID as Early as January 2021

https://redstate.com/bobhoge/2023/06/20/cdc-email-shows-biden-admin-knew-vaccines-didnt-stop-covid-yet-forced-them-on-the-nation-anyway-n764629

The COVID pandemic was traumatizing for many people for so many reasons: illness, of course, loneliness due to lockdowns, ruined businesses, learning and developmental loss for kids, and much, much more.

But of all the failed, draconian governmental responses, the mRNA vaccine mandates arguably caused the most harm—feuding families were destroyed, friendships ruined, and millions either bent the knee and unwillingly got a shot or got fired. Meanwhile, an untold number experienced significant health issues from the untested technology.

Despite all this, the Biden administration pushed the jabs relentlessly and endlessly waxed poetic about the magic of mRNA, which they claimed would pull the nation out of the crisis. Biden and his flunkies condemned any American who questioned the narrative and insisted that you would not get the virus if you got the vax and that a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” was to blame for our inability to eradicate it.

The only problem with all this: it wasn’t true—and they knew it.

Emails obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request (FOIA) show that then CDC Director Rochelle Walensky and former NIH Director Francis Collins discussed “breakthrough cases” of COVID in January 2021 — just when the vaccines were being rolled out widely to the public.

My son is a middle school science teacher. A lot of his students are from Mexico and are ignorant in their own language.

Just wanted industry wanted. Now they can justify hiring alien STEMs at half the rate as US STEMs because the US Stems just aren’t qualified.

In the early 2000s I taught Middle School math. I also ran an after-school study/tutoring hall M-F, 3 hours each day (yes, I love teaching and showing people easy ways to do almost anything) Before I came to this school, the Principal had to beg individual teachers to staff the after school study hall. It was not always open previously.

The reason I write all this is there were other Middle School math teachers in the same school who would not help their own students after school. Some of the students stated their own teacher recommended they should go to the study hall. Some of these teachers would show up 5 minutes before school began, and leave at the afternoon bell. It was a joy to wake up young skulls full of mush, and inspire them, convince them they could do anything they set their minds to do.

PS. This school had fantastic discipline, and supported making each classroom a place to learn. It is not a private school, and if a student just wanted to be disruptive every day, they did not remain in the classroom.

Pandemic added to it, but this is a result of the common core approach to math. Most kids learn math best via the boring, old fashioned way. Having very young students learn several approaches, be creative, etc. Just doesn’t work. And the vast majority of elementary school teachers suck too much at math to even do that approach correctly, so they hand out worksheets and mark kids wrong for right answers.

Gifted students in math (top 1 to 2%) are a different story. There my advice would be four days a week of self-paced learning of the standard curriculum and one day a week of a special math class with other bright kids and a mathematician or other STEM professional.

This is not the fault of lockdowns or schools or teachers.

It’s solely and exclusively the fault of parents.

This was among the aims of the "event" as well as a clear consequence of Fauci-Birx following the Ferguson modeling which was essentially driven by the CCP. We were played, and massive damage alongside massive profits cheered the few.
