Bud Light is ‘coming back’ but controversy is a ‘wake-up call,’ Anheuser-Busch exec says

CMO Anheuser-Busch USA Marcel Marcondes speaks at the Cannes Lions International Festival June 20, 2019 in Cannes, France.

New York CNN —

Anheuser-Busch InBev’s top marketing executive is speaking out following a monthslong boycott of Bud Light that has cost the brand its title as America’s top-selling beer.

“When things get divisive and controversial so easily, I think it’s an important wake-up call to all of us marketers to be very humble,” said Marcel Marcondes, Anheuser-Busch’s global chief marketing officer, at a conference on Monday.

Bud Light sales have tumbled since the company’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney sparked an anti-trans backlash and calls for a boycott. The company’s tepid response angered LGBTQ+ advocates, and the episode became ground zero in America’s culture wars.

Dunno what they will do but if it were me I would start running funny ads with no politics. I see no upside in taking political sides.

In general, I’m not a fan of light beers. I’m not an IPA guy either or porter/stout guy either.

But I don’t choose Bud Light because it’s never really had any taste to it. Regular Budweiser was respectable as American lagers go. Years ago, Budweiser Select was also good.

The best thing Bud could do is buy a quality craft beer and use their label for the next 3-4 years. At the end of that time, evaluate if the brand is even worth bringing back.

Mulvaney may be a blessing in disguise. I bet a lot of companies are rethinking getting on the ‘woke’ bandwagon.

Too late. No straight man will ever drink a Bud Light in public again.

Only if they have smart CEO's. Many do not.

Last sentence of the article: ***“It’s coming back,” he said.***

What a way to end it. You’d think there would be some follow up to this particular statement, as in something that would indicate the brand really is coming back. Nah, nuff said, in CNN’s mind.

CMO said it, so it MUST be true.

Kinda like when Slow Joe tells us something. It MUST be true, because he said it.

These people make me sick.

In general, I’m not a fan of light beers. I’m not an IPA guy either or porter/stout guy either.

That sounds like me, although I go a step further and prefer an amber lager or ale over a standard version. So, something like Bud Light was never on the radar, and regular Bud hasn't been since college.

Last week was the worst one yet but “it’s coming back” . Idiots and cowards. Notice CNN focused on the “tepid” response that “angered” the LBGT creeps

A “wake-up call,” a “teachable moment,” a “perfect storm.”

What am I leaving out? Help me out here.

A “black swan event.”

Mulvaney may be a blessing in disguise. I bet a lot of companies are rethinking getting on the ‘woke’ bandwagon.

They're catering to the "woke" left because they are afraid of the consequences from the radical left if they don't.

If they now become afraid of the consequences from the mainstream center-right, then maybe they'll quit this f***ery.

“”Marcondes told an audience at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. He said brands in this situation should remain open to learning and understanding their customers.””

This article and a LOT of articles are leaving out the main reason Budweiser was there.

He was picking up the award for “Cannes Lions Creative Marketer of the Year in 2023”, a record-breaking 2 winning years in a row.

” we have named ABI the Cannes Lions Creative Marketer of the Year in 2023,” said Simon Cook, Chief Executive Officer of LIONS. “ABI is the first company to be awarded for two consecutive years.”

Typical, focus on the 3-4 twitter trans all upset, not the 10 million buying customers.
