Vanderbilt University Medical Center has released the records of its transgender patients to the Tennessee Attorney General in response to an investigation.
VUMC said the state was investigating billing for transgender care services provided to individuals enrolled in State-sponsored insurance plans.
The Attorney General's office confirmed Tuesday it launched a probe into the medical school for potential medical billing fraud.
The state requested medical records from January 1, 2018, to the present, and VUMC started providing relevant records in December 2022.
In a letter the clinic told patients that their records were handed over on the 'assurance that the records would remain confidential as required by Tennessee law.'
The case was brought following allegations made by conservative advocates that VUMC punished employees that objected to its gender-affirming treatments, the Tennessean reported. VUMC denied the allegations.

As I understand it just the surgery costs over $100,000. That doesn’t include the lifetime (Avg. 30 years) of care needed after the mutilation. I’d venture to guess Obamacare makes it mandatory coverage for all.
I remember when it was first reported they were doing these child mutilations and they quickly started trying to hide that information. Information they had been previously bragging about to their supporters.
Most plans (won’t say all of them)...won’t cover cosmetic surgery. Would be curious if these were done under some other code, and paid out via insurance companies. If so, and the AG finds examples...it opens up for prosecution. Would be rather stupid to be dragged in for this type corruption for something that was $5,000 to $15,000
I suspect the billing fraud has to do with what is deemed “medically necessary.” Ordinarily an operation like a root canal would not be paid for by insurance. But if the root canal is to address a bone infection that might kill the patient it would probably be coded as “medically necessary.” The fraud would come in if the doctor merely wanted to charge insurance for what would be an uncovered procedure by using a trick to get the insurance to cover it. What sex change is medically necessary? That would be hard to prove even with everyone involved trying to interpret the rules towards doing the procedure.
Yes, we charged $25K for that aspirin, but that's because it chose to identify as necessary hormonal treatment....
They probably do the surgeries under the guise of “mental health.”
That is how sick and pathetic our country has become.
The entire notion of gender denial (transgenderism) being a mental disorder is a lie. You can tell by the so-call treatment. It does not bear any resemblance to the treatment of any other mental illness. You don’t counsel a chronically depressed patient to be permanently depressed, nor do you give them drugs and surgeries to make their condition permanent.
The gender denial lie of a prognosis is required for the lie of so-called treatment. None of this is science. None of this is medicine. It is pure evil and every so-called professional practicing these lies needs to be executed for crimes against humanity.
I’ll tell you how. A psychologist and a surgeon write a letter deeming the elective surgery to be necessary to the “mental health” of the patient.
Good grief what the hell happened to Vanderbilt?
I remember when I went to college a kid (Indiana state) it had a reputation of academic excellence and old southern morality and traditions. At least that’s how I remember it back in 1981.
Their students used to chant "Beat us today, work for us tomorrow."
Vanderbilt University Medical Center began in 1874 when the School of Medicine, which had been part of the University of Nashville since its founding in 1851, was incorporated into Vanderbilt University, which had been founded in 1873 with a (one million dollar) grant from Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt. The first degree awarded by this new University, in 1875, went to Henry William Morgan, and was a medical degree.
Cornelius deserves his money back.
“Would be curious if these were done under some other code, and paid out via insurance companies.”
I would bet that is happening. And the insurance companies are probably full of wokies that turned a blind eye to it, even while their company was being defrauded.
But if they defrauded government funds, that could bring the whole house of cards down. Once there is no more money to be made by the medical industry, they will quickly lose interest in promoting this nonsense, I think.
This wouldn’t have involved medicare funds....would it?
Here is a list of insurance companies that cover genital mutilation. So if you have one of these plans you are effectively paying for elective surgery and lifetime care for what at one time was classified as a mental disorder.
