Kremlin official suggests Russia could one day try to reclaim Alaska from the US

A Russian official this week threatened the US over the freezing of Russian assets, urging it to remember that Alaska was once part of Russia's territory.

"Let America always remember: there is a part of its territory that is Russia — Alaska," Vyacheslav Volodin, a Putin ally and speaker of the Russian parliament's lower house, said on Wednesday, according to multiple media outlets.

"When they attempt to appropriate our assets abroad, they should be aware that we also have something to claim back," Volodin added.

In other hawkish comments made on Wednesday, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy secretary of Russia's Security Council, posted a long tirade on Telegram in which he slammed "any attempts to create tribunals or courts" to investigate Russia's actions in Ukraine.

"It won't work with Russia, they know it well," Medvedev wrote. "That's why the rotten dogs of war are barking in such a disgusting way."

Warning that it would be "absurd" to try to "punish a country with the largest nuclear potential," Medvedev also slammed the US for attempting to "spread chaos and destruction across the world for the sake of 'true democracy.'

"The entire US history since the times of subjugation of the native Indian population represents a series of bloody wars," Medvedev wrote, referencing other US actions such as its bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II and its involvement in the Vietnam War.

"Was anyone held responsible for those crimes? What tribunal condemned the sea of blood spilled by the U.S. there?" Medvedev asked.

Medvedev's comments were not the first time the Russians threatened Ukraine's allies with nuclear warfare. In May, a Russian propagandist warned that a nuclear strike could wipe out the UK and Ireland.

This is for those who doubt that we have an interest in what is happening in Ukraine or who believe in the good intentions of Putin and his regime.

I thought Seward purchased Alaska with money and stuff. We didn’t steal it.

Just some big talk. Trolling if you will

I expect the USA to be out of the picture in a few year, but even then it won't be worth it to them.

Ya, Ukraine is all about protecting Alaska, get real.

They are politically saber rattling about Alaska precisely because we are continuing a proxy war via Ukraine, Alaska in such a context would never have been mentioned if not for Biden using Ukraine to attack Russia.

I am not saying Russia is good, I maintain both are evil and we should stay out of their way of destroying each other, offering humanitarian add for civilians caught in the middle.

Better do it while Biden, not Trump, is President.

Lol. One Russian lunatic doesn’t set global policy. Besides Alaska was bought, fair and square. I guess Russia can try to come take it. But first they need a competent military and a LOT more force projection than they apparently have.

Or they could just spend a few mill on paintings by Hunter. Then Joe will just give it away. After all they worked together before on the Trump pee docs.

William Seward got a lot of derision for our purchase but it turned out to be one of the best land acquisitions in our history, second to how Jefferson fleeced Bonaparte.

They are barely holding onto a few square miles of land bordering their own.

We are not conducting a proxy war against Russia. Russia is conducting a war against the rest of the world and we are part of the rest of the world. We aid Ukraine just like France aided us in our revolution. Russia has also made similar statements about Finland. Most of the free world is supporting Ukraine because they see it the way it is. I just don't understand why you can't see it like it is.

I have never believed in the “good intentions” of Putin. Not once. He and his government are highly corrupt and they have siphoned off the wealth of their nation.

However, we had NO business interfering in the Ukraine or pushing NATO east. None. My children and yours, Ukrainian children, European children, and Russian children are not better off for our involvement.

This war was avoidable and while Putin is the easiest to blame for good reasons there are many others who also have blood on their hands. There are also many involved outside of Russia who were highly corrupt including at DC, Manhattan, Brussels, and Kiev.

What a tragic waste and my hope and prayer is that it will end soon and it does not escalate further because I don’t trust the “leaders” on either side of the conflict to put children first.

If they invaded Alaska now, Biden would likely say it was just a mistake that they were not aware of.

Lots of people tried to put an end to Russia, Napoleon, the French Emperor and the best general in Europe. Hitler with his massive War Machine—using surprise stabbing an ally in the back. They all failed. If we get into WW III—AND LOSE. Bye bye Alaska Well, maybe not all of Alaska—just the Northern Half with all the Oil. Many of the Native People of Alaska belong to The Russian Orthodox Faith—they might not mind being under Moscow. Russia treated native people a lot better than the USA has. The USA hasn’t been around that long to suffer a major military defeat (well, the War of 1812 saw our capital burned—in revenge for burning the capital of Canada). Borders change, lands change flags, if you think that doesn’t happen just ask a Tibetan.

The United States should lay claim to Wrangel Island, which was once our stomping grounds off the coast of Siberia.
