Former Vice President Mike Pence promised “the best days of the greatest nation on earth are yet to come" in a video released Wednesday formally launching his campaign for the Republican nomination for president.
“Different times call for different leadership,” Pence, who served four years alongside then-President Donald Trump, says in the video, released via Fox News and Twitter hours ahead of a kickoff event in Des Moines. “Today our party and our country need a leader that’ll appeal, as Lincoln said, to the better angels of our nature."
While it would be “easy to stay on the sidelines,” he adds, ”that’s not how I was raised. That’s why today, before God and my family, I’m announcing I'm running for president of the United States.”
With Pence's entry into the race, the GOP field is largely set. It includes Trump, who's leading in early polls, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who remains in second, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who also was launching his campaign Wednesday.
Pence is staking his presidential hopes on Iowa as he launches a campaign that will make him the first vice president in modern history to take on his former running mate.
Pence's campaign will also test the party's appetite for a socially conservative, mild-mannered and deeply religious candidate who has denounced the populist tide that has swept through his party under Trump. And it will show whether Pence still has a political future after Jan. 6, 2021, when a large portion of GOP voters still believe Trump's lies that the 2020 election was stolen and that Pence had the power to reject the results of the election, won by Democrat Joe Biden.

“We are not going to try to out-Trump Pence. Everybody else is," Reed said. “Pence is the only candidate running not to be Trump’s VP.”
Lame campaign slogan. Fit that on a sign.
He's a wolf in sheep's clothing.
He couldn’t lead a Boy Scout Troop.
It will never be time for Pence’s leadership style. Not only his backstabbing, undermining, disloyalty and swamp credentials but his cowardice and failures to protect & defend the American people will never be in fashion or any type of asset. Who lead the COVID response team???
What does that cliche even mean? Sounds like the same old same old.
30 Pence is a sad joke.
Pence isn’t different leadership. Pence is old line establishment GOP leadership - talks a good game at best, but is milquetoast when they need to do something and floppy like an undercooked pancake when they have to vote or legislate.
I don’t know where to begin with Pence. Before 2016, I thought he was a very credible national Republican leader. Then he kind of got lost as Trump’s vice president. Now he’s “denounced the populist tide that has swept through his party under Trump.” That populist tide brought millions of new voters into the GOP. I sympathize with some of his positions on cutting spending, reforming entitlements, etc. But those positions got us nowhere since the 1990s. Bush abandoned them and Trump never picked them back up. If that’s all we have, we’ll never win another election.
Pence’s insistence on those policies is a non-starter. Deeply religious and wearing it on his sleeve is a non-starter among most sub-50 age groups (note that this is a combo point). Mild-mannered? Yeah, the conventional old line GOP mild manners are why so many younger people are infuriated with the GOP. In the modern day, it makes you look weak and usually leads to ineffectiveness. We need a political brawler, not some Walter Mitty type.
Deeply religious? The man betrayed the American people and think that entitles him to lead? He’s disgusting
Pence couldn’t lead a thirsty dog to water.
I doubt that princess campaign will test anybody.
Nobody Likes Mike
Pence = RINO = UNIPARTY. TRUMP2024
Pence is another going nowhere candidate.
Unlike some I don’t hate him, but he has no shot at the nomination and he knows it.
Pence? Who is this Pence of whom you refer?
It’s a cliche, but it fits Pence perfectly. He might have made a fine President in 1960. Or even 1992. But the time for Red Squad/Blue Squad Rah Rah Rah is over. He would lead the country into further destruction, if he could get anyone to vote for him.
Snowball. Hell.
