A frequent donor to the NRA and Republican politicians and causes told reporters that he lost several family members when a private jet crashed after flying through restricted airspace Sunday.
John Rumpel told The Washington Post that his “entire family” was on board the Cessna Citation that crashed near Montebello, Virginia, around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Multiple outlets, including The New York Times, reported that Rumpel’s daughter, 2-year-old granddaughter, and a nanny went down with the plane, as well as a pilot.

Because of the Payne Stewart mishap, rule number 1 when you have cabin pressurization loss: Don Oxygen masks.
Some Citations only need one pilot.
I’ve flown that path to ISP (MacArthur Airport) a few times. The route takes you crossing the south shore going north and makes a left U turn about the middle of Long Island as it descends into its landing path. Be curious to know how low in altitude that plane got since they were so close to the landing destination.
That is one egregious headline..................
Yep.
Does it seem odd that the pilot had done a 180 in preparation to land at NY air port and then passed out?
The father said they were returning to the Hamptons from visiting him in North Carolina.
Wonder why the plane took off from Tenn?
So planes have auto pilots that return them to destination point AND land?
What if there isn’t enough fuel to get back to destination point?
I don't know, which is what I said in my first post.
It does look odd, though. It could have made an instrument approach that it was preprogrammed to do, and then just kept traveling in a straight line from there, again coincidentally flying over DC. I can't imagine that an explosive decompression would happen at approach altitudes, so something must have happened long before then and the autopilot turned the plane but kept it level.
But it's all just speculation on my part.
Regarding running out of fuel, that's what happened to Payne Stewart. A fighter jet followed the plane until it ran out of fuel and then crashed back to the ground.

I don't recall reading..."Payne Stewart" proud conservative Christian and Republican voter"....
The headline is what’s kmown as yellow journalism.
Not necessarily a lie, but yellow... like Fox news.
Well they could have been in a Cirrus SR22.
When you get tired of flying you just deploy the parachute and it lands you gently back on the ground.
I guess everyone knows that Montebello, Virginia is three hours from DC by car.
I guess I’m just smarter than most I guess.
And you?

Yellow
[Verse 1: Chris Martin]
Look at the stars, look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah, they were all yellow
I came along, I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called “Yellow”
So then I took my turn
Oh, what a thing to have done
And it was all yellow
[Chorus 1: Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland & Will Champion]
(Aah) Your skin, oh, yeah, your skin and bones
(Ooh) Turn into something beautiful
(Aah) You know, you know I love you so
You know I love you so
[Verse 2: Chris Martin]
I swam across, I jumped across for you
Oh, what a thing to do
‘Cause you were all yellow
I drew a line, I drew a line for you
Oh, what a thing to do
And it was all yellow
[Chorus 2: Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland & Will Champion]
(Aah) Your skin, oh, yeah, your skin and bones
(Ooh) Turn into something beautiful
(Aah) And you know, for you, I’d bleed myself dry
For you, I’d bleed myself dry
[Bridge: Chris Martin]
It’s true, look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine
[Outro: Chris Martin]
Look at the stars, look how they shine for you
And all the things that you do
Bwaaahaaaahaaaa.
I need to get a set of those. Do they work for those who don’t drink?
Yes-very weird. Would like to know how that happened.
You begin and end a single sentence with "I guess" and want me to believe your intellectual capacity is greater than most people? I don't think so.
Wow, sounds plausible, so in that scenario this plane should have been singled out in New York airspace as basically an unguided missile—why wasn’t D.C. advised early by someone extrapolating the flight path of the pilot-free-but-still-flying-jet over the White House? As it was, they scrambled last minute and the jet did fly over the White House, something that should NEVER have happened UNLESS it was determined without a doubt by that point that there was no risk of an actual attack.
look at the flight path. The original flight path had turns. the auto pilot was following way points. when it reached the final waypoint, it didn’t know where to go, so it stayed on the last path.
Also, the citation is single pilot certified, so a single pilot incapacitated, would be an issue. As a former corporate pilot, I will never understand why someone would spend millions for the jet and then not pay for two pilots.
Have you always been this sensitive or is it only since you transitioned?
So Boomer, how long have you had this cognitive bias of your exaggerated IQ? Have you been diagnosed with The Dunning–Kruger effect? Doctors may be able to help you if they catch it early.
