The Western Journal ^ | June, 5, 2023 | George C. Upper III

A frequent donor to the NRA and Republican politicians and causes told reporters that he lost several family members when a private jet crashed after flying through restricted airspace Sunday.

John Rumpel told The Washington Post that his “entire family” was on board the Cessna Citation that crashed near Montebello, Virginia, around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Multiple outlets, including The New York Times, reported that Rumpel’s daughter, 2-year-old granddaughter, and a nanny went down with the plane, as well as a pilot.

I believe I remember readi ng that though they were powerless to help the unconscious and likely dead pilot and passengers, they shadowed the doomed plane in order to be able to try to shoot it down if it looked like it would crash near populated areas. RIP. :(

You have got to be kidding... “Prominent Trump Donor” and “After Being Intercepted by F-16s Over DC” are IRRELEVANT, and were placed in the title by enemedia scum attempting to suggest the supporter was endangering the elitist sh*thole of DC requiring a miltary response. ‘Entire Family’ Killed in Plane Crash is the only detail required...

I remember this one from 1980.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1980/01/12/lsu-coach-presumed-killed/93071bb3-ba7d-4ee6-b397-e86e56ea5dec/

Robert Edward “Bo” Rein (July 20, 1945 – January 10, 1980)

I remember when Charles Berlitz had a tabloid article on the Bermuda Triangle. He made the claim that Rein was being drawn toward the Triangle resulting in his death. (Nonsense!)

I don’t think the headline is bad.

The headline implies that the plane crashed as a result of being intercepted by fighter jets.

It's likely that everyone onboard had already died from sudden decompression and the plane was flying on autopilot until it ran out of fuel or ran into a mountainside.

In either case, being intercepted by fighter jets had no impact on the private plane.

article: "The Cessna was not shot down, according to federal officials."

OK, that confirms that they shot it down.

How did the plane make a perfect U turn over NY to fly over DC?

Nothing definitive yet but it's thought the jet lost cabin pressure before anyone could don an oxygen mask so everyone went to sleep, including the pilot.

The same thing happened to a prominent golfer 5 years ago.

"I don’t think the headline is bad."

How do you tie your shoes in the morning if you think this headline isn't egregiously awful? You must have velcro sneakers.

I don't know about planes or automatic pilot, but a review of the flight path looks like the plane was returning to its point of origin.

Is it possible that the autopilot can detect if nobody is at the controls and return the plane to its origin in an emergency?

The fact that DC was on the flight path back to its Virginia origination is coincidental.

That could certainly be it
But doesn’t that mean it happened AFTER the pilot made a 180 turn to land at NY air port?
Have not seen any reports if talk between pilot and ATC at air port.

I’ve wondered why automated descent isn’t part of auto pilot in such situations.

You are so right about DC but that also applies to all the criminals that call themselves journalists.

how hard could it be to kill a known rich political supporter with a glitch in the oxygen supply of their jet, or a high altitude venting of the cabin via flip of a switch or sending a kill code to a solenoid switch installed by the “approved mechanic” last service cycle.

would they murder trump supporters?

hell folks, they love to murder post born babies and mutilate pre pubescent teens and call them both a form of reproductive health choices. They use OUR tax money to pay for both... of course they would gladly murder conservatives any way they could... that way they will forever vote democrat... being dead and all...

I have just a little over 300 hours in Citation II. I flew right seat on charters, and flew reposition for maintenance at the Greensboro Citation Service Center, and bum a jump seat ride back home.

Cesna Citations (I,II) are dubbed the "Fischer-Price Jet" of biz jets. Not much of a useful load. Underpowered relative to its competitors. It's very common to scud-run them when not going a great distance, especially so around the DC Flyway corridor. It's very common to fly them at VFR altitudes and Low Level Enroute routes IFR. I rarely flew above 12,000 feet unless we were traveling more than 250 miles. That can build bad habits in cockpit management. If you have six passengers and baggage you don't have a great deal of fuel load, which means frequent stops. In a trip from Charlotte to Seattle, we had to stop twice for fuel. The plane spends a fair amount of time and distance at low unpressurized altitudes versus a Falcon, Lear, Hawker, etc....

Sorry, I was going by the graphic in this video from Fox News: Sonic boom heard in Washington DC area came from two F-16 jets.

Scroll to the 3:50 mark and you can see that it appears that the plane is returning to its origination point.

Also, some planes do have an "autoland" feature of their autopilots.
