Former Vice President Mike Pence reiterated his call on Republicans to resist what he called the “siren song of populism” during the 2024 presidential race, signaling that it will be his theme throughout his rumored run.
Pence issued his plea when speaking during Republican Sen. Joni Ernst’s annual “Roast and Ride” fundraiser in Des Moines, Iowa.
“I believe we have to resist the politics of personality and the siren song of populism unmoored to timeless conservative principles, and we need to stand firm on the conservative agenda of life and liberty and a commitment to freedom that has always led us to victory,” Pence told the crowd at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
Pence previously issued warnings about populism, such as in 2022 when he said that conservatives should not be “led astray by unprincipled populism.”
“Our movement cannot forsake the foundational commitment that we have to security, to limited government, to liberty, and to life. But nor can we allow our movement to be led astray by the siren song of unprincipled populism that’s unmoored from our oldest traditions and most cherished values,” he said.
“There’s a healthy debate going on within our movement today,” he added. “Some in our movement long for a simple return to traditional conservative agenda of the Reagan era. Others say our movement should be swept along by a new and energetic sense of populism.”

Of the Lawyers, By the Lawyers, For the Lawyers is the reality.
Just because it's a representative government doesn't mean they represent YOU.
Just like the Dems: your populism bad, my populism good.
Hope he paused for the crowd to settle down from LTAO since he wouldn’t know one of those principles if it bit him in the backside.
He probably paid some out of work consultant to write that trite phrase and feels he has to use it.
It’s stupid because it doesn’t connect to his situation as a quisling trying to make voters forget his treachery.
says the not so popular people
We certainly wouldn’t want to be “popular”, would we...
Uh-huh. That’s why he showed up in Iowa in a black leather motorcycle jacket.

Look: you guys need to ignore your voters and keep doing business the way we want.
By running, he becomes just another politician looking for a way to amass funds that after he is UNSUCCESSFUL will somehow end up in his own pocket.
What a dweep. To the establishment, populism = anyone with different ideas than theirs.
Shaddup, you filthy bought-off TRAITOR!
Sod Off Judas Pence.
Are you a globalist Pence?
Has Trump ever defined his political philosophy with the word Populist?
If it refers to immigration policy, Trump got a F-minus for his first two years as President.
The only reason his immigration policy improved during his last two years was because of Covid and relentless pressure from GOP immigration hawks like me.
Go back to your word puzzles…. It was the proud principal conservatives that called President Trump a populist…. His policies were cutting into their prosperity. As far as immigration goes.. the whole Congress both led by two lying Catholics just like the godfather Joey are spearheading this invasion.. Have you never read Peter?
Let’s say Trump was in fact kept in the dark as President about the flow of private and public sector corruption that naturally led to the long-sought plandemic, the illegitimate lockdown including the brutal shutdown of K-12 schools, the Cloward-Piven dream of a worldwide economic shutdown, piehole-shutting masks and “social distancing” and the Orwellian backwards doublespeak language used to justify all of it as a “new normal”, and then, as the pièce de résistance, the sterilizing, maiming and killing mRNA gene therapy injections (a.k.a., world’s biggest war crime).
Was Trump’s VP Pence similarly in the dark about these things? Or was he always a Trump-despising Deep State plant who now won’t be able to claim ignorance?
I always thought highly of Mr. Pence until January 6, 2021.
