When Ukraine’s long-awaited counteroffensive finally begins, the fight will be led by brigades armed not only with Western weapons but also Western know-how, gleaned from months of training aimed at transforming Ukraine’s military into a modern force skilled in NATO’s most advanced warfare tactics.
As other Ukrainian units were fighting to expel the Russian occupiers from the country’s east and south, the brand-new 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade was preparing for the next phase of war from a classroom at a NATO base in Germany.
The brigade’s leadership trained with computers that simulated situations they might face in real life. Deputy commander Maj. Ivan Shalamaha and others planned their assaults and then let the program show them the results — how their Russian enemies might respond, where they could make a breakthrough and where they would suffer losses.
“You understand the overall picture, how it works,” Shalamaha said. “You understand where and what your shortcomings were. And we pay attention to what we failed to do during this simulation.”
Now the war games are over. The 47th brigade and other assault units have been armed with Western weapons, including Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, and relocated to a secret location closer to the front line. During a recent visit by Washington Post journalists, the soldiers were waiting for the order to charge ahead to retake a large swath of Ukrainian territory and tip the war back in Kyiv’s favor.
The counteroffensive will be the biggest test yet of the U.S.-led strategy of giving the Ukrainians weapons and training to fight like an American army might — but on their own.

The straw man here is “utterly destroyed the enemy” - who said that? The Russian army has been repeatedly thwarted, suffered defeats and has lost many men and much materiel, but its not been “destroyed”. It’s not going to be destroyed even if it is defeated again.
Consider the German army after Falaise, a great defeat. It was not destroyed. It was chased out of France, but recovered sufficiently to man the Westwall/Siegfried line. In all that time the Allies continued to pour materiel and reinforcements into France and Belgium.

This war is disaster for this country. We're closer to nuclear war and WWIII than were during the Cold War and its ONLY because of Putin and the Russian's restraint that it hasn't happened.
We've wasted $200 billion on this war. We started a sanction that the people in this country and Europe have gotten the worst end of. We're facing de-dollarization that could destroy our quality of life.
This war is being fought to put money in the pockets of our political elite oligarchs, who couldn't give a hoot about the rest of us. It's the Bidens and Soros that have gotten rich off our meddling in Ukraine.

Weird post, some are training while others are at the front and at sea, and others aren’t even in the military yet, others are in hospitals and rehabilitation, and others have mustered out, is there another way that all this happens in other militaries?

Lol we never mobilized for Afghanistan, the size of our forces were never as large, as with Vietnam we had won the battles but politics eventually won. As having served in Iraq and Afghanistan I believe both were a waste, but losing not hardly. Xiden thought he could pull a good one on 9/11….
Pres Trump had already drawn down forces but was going to leave bagram active to support afghan govt and military.
