Why is Kevin McCarthy not afraid of a motion to vacate the chair?
Vanity

Now that the debt ceiling has been lifted again, I'm wondering why McCarthy seems not to be afraid of losing his speakership?

Has he cut a secret deal with Democrats where they keep him in just like they voted more for his deal with Biden?

That would be good seeing as the bomb got dropped in the White House briefing today as well.

We need people that will go to war.

So far Gaetz, Bishop, and one other (can’t recall who) have raised this issue within the last 24 hours. Probably there are more that I haven’t heard about.

“I’m wondering why McCarthy seems not to be afraid of losing his speakership?” -— I have no idea what he is thinking or feeling. I imagine the J6 tapes deal with John Solomon is related to the unpopular debt issue.

Because, like Paul Ryno, he’s guaranteed to get a cushy job on some corporate board.

That’s interesting to think about. Maybe McCarthy just wanted to serve as speaker and didn’t care how long it was for?

Or maybe it’s possible that the people who voted against him earlier have been bought off the way that MTG was?

Because he knows how to count votes. Nothing dark or sinister about it

If he cut a secret deal with Democrats, why did so many House Republicans vote for the deal?

He is Trump’s endorsed guy. Probably nothing to worry about.

I believe that 200 of the house conservatives are for Kevin, as they were when he was elected. I believe those 200 are mediocre at best and do what they are told.

So, this notion that Kevin can be removed was always nonsense because the 200 won’t support anyone else. They are followers, not leaders.

Hence the reason Trump backed Kevin, no one else could have won that wasn’t a democrat. And Keven + the 200 are the ones crippling the MAGA party. It’s no difference than 2016, 2012, 2008 etc.

This crowd also passed the ‘increase debt deal’. Uniparty

Republicans and Conservatives don’t win this in one round. McCarthy got about half of what he/we wanted. It’s an incremental win. He set the appropriations rules that give leverage to appropriations through normal process. We turn the screws tighter between now and September. Keep squeezing! Republicans need to play the long game that Democrats keep using to beat us.
Well done, Kevin!

In the past, the other party always supports removing the majority leader. With all the votes against McCarthy’s bill, surely there’s enough to sink him—unless the Democrats have a secret deal to not support a motion to vacate.

GulliverSwift, Speaker McCarthy is not worried because he is playing big boy politics. He gave something to everyone... and convinced some folks that they needed the rules that go along with what was passed in order to keep everyone’s guns pointed at each other.

Pure speculation to follow...

1) Kevin convinced those of us who want accountability...that we will get it... with threats to the FBI... contempt charges... and J6 Video releases

2) He told the Whitehouse... this is what you get because this is what I can sell and without it... I will stand in the Chamber and Say... “Joe Biden is an illegitimate president who was elected through industrial scale voter fraud and here are the receipts.” Kevin doesn’t want to do that because he wants power... It is a strange drug... I want him to do that...but I am not motivated by this level of ambition for power.

3) He cleared the board while he holds all of the receipts. No debt discussion until after Joe Biden’s first illegitimate term...hopefully the last. And now going into 2024... McCarthy is now the most powerful man in US Politics... Biden and the folks behind him now are full “weekend at Bernie’s” because Kevin has the control of the budget for the FBI and DOJ...

I don’t like any of it, but that is where I think we are and what is going on.
