The Oscar for Fake Simulated Casualty Goes To…!

U.S. Marines with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) carry a simulated casualty after a notional aftershock during a simulated foreign humanitarian assistance (FHA) part of Composite Training Unit Exercise in Perry, Georgia, May 27, 2023. FHA consists of Department of Defense activities conducted outside of the U.S. and its territories to directly relieve or reduce human suffering, disease, hunger, or privation. FHA is intended to supplement or complement efforts of host nation civil authorities or agencies with the primary responsibility for providing assistance. The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit serves as one of the Nation’s premier crisis response forces capable of conducting amphibious operations, crisis response, and limited contingency operations, to include enabling follow-on forces and special operations. Preparing To Refuel!

NE 23-1 provides effective, flexible and capabilities-centered joint forces, ready for deployment worldwide, and enables real-world proficiency in detection, identification and tracking of units at sea, in the air and on land, and response to multiple crises. I can think of 20 things I’d rather be doing than this!

Sailors assigned to USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) ride in a CH-53 Super Stallion helicopter assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 362 (Rein.), 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), May 28, 2023 in the Pacific Ocean. The heavy-lift helicopter can carry a 26,000-pound Light Armored Vehicle, 16 tons of cargo 50 miles and back, or enough combat-loaded Marines to lead an assault or humanitarian operation. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and John P. Murtha, is currently underway conducting routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet with the embarked 13th MEU. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Joshua Samoluk)

I Got This!

Members of the 181st Intelligence Wing help place flags for the Wabash Valley Run for the Fallen along the trail outside of the Indiana State University Memorial Stadium, May 24, 2023. A total of 7000 flags were placed every 18 inches in memory of a fallen service member. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Master Sgt. L. Roland Sturm)

June 1

In God’s Hands

Bible in a Year:

The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

1 Thessalonians 5:24

Turning eighteen ushered in a new era in my daughter’s life: legally an adult, she now had the right to vote in future elections and would soon embark on life after graduating from high school. This shift had instilled in me a sense of urgency—I would have precious little time with her under my roof to impart to her the wisdom she’d need to face the world on her own: how to manage finances, stay alert to world issues, and make sound decisions.

My sense of duty to equip my daughter to handle her life was understandable. After all, I loved her and desired for her to flourish. But I realized that while I had an important role, it wasn’t solely—or even primarily—my job. In Paul’s words to the Thessalonians—a group of people he considered his children in the faith because he’d taught them about Jesus—he urged them to help one another (1 Thessalonians 5:14–15), but ultimately he trusted their growth to God. He acknowledged that God would “sanctify [them] through and through” (v. 23).

Paul trusted God to do what he couldn’t: prepare them—“spirit, soul and body”—for the eventual return of Jesus (v. 23). Though his letters to the Thessalonians contained instructions, his trust in God for their well-being and preparedness teaches us that growth in the lives of those we care for is ultimately in His hands (1 Corinthians 3:6).

Reflect & Pray

How have you observed God helping you to grow in Him? Whose growth do you need to entrust to Him?

Father, thank You for being the initiator and finisher of my spiritual growth. Please help me to trust You for that good work.

Cool and DRY.

Sub average tempertatures for the month with many mornings in the low 40’s.

And barely 4/10 inch of rain ALL MONTH!

Driest May since record keeping began in my corner of the Keystone State.

Hey there, radu!

It was about 90, but there was a stiff breeze that made it not feel too hot. We had lots of rain clouds around us late this afternoon, but you guessed it. We got zippo, nada, nothing. *sigh*

Hot is awful....steamy and hot is 100 times worse! I hope you had a bit of a breeze for a bit of relief.

If it’s 90 here, even a stiff breeze won’t make it feel not too hot. LOL We were close to 90 and will up in the 90s this weekend, with a lot of humidity to go with it.

It was mostly cloudy here with a little breeze and that helped a little while I was outside with the well guys. I’m still limp from being in the heat though. I just don’t handle it well anymore.

Good evening, radu...after all the physical labor you’ve had to do in the last few days, are you among the mobile living?

Hope you can relax a bit and let your back unwind.

Hey there, Kathy.

I’m among the living but not very mobile. At least I have water again and I didn’t drop dead when I got the bill. LOL It wasn’t painless but it was less than I expected.

My stress level dropped drastically and in that regard, I feel much better. I was wound up like a two-dollar watch. LOL
