Former President Donald Trump blasted Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) ahead of his presidential campaign launch on Wednesday, asserting he would be doomed to fail in the general election after voting to overhaul entitlement programs when he was a congressman.
Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate, took to Truth Social to hit DeSantis’s support of legislation that took aim at Social Security and Medicare during his time in Congress :

While that is absolutely true, it’s also certainly a hypothetical assessment.
DeSantis will not be the 2024 nominee. And he’ll burn down what’s left of GOP esprit de corps trying.
Alas, he is just another Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio. Doomed to the ash heap of GOP wannabes.

Trump was the first presidential candidate in my lifetime who openly opposed his own party’s platform on import issues — such as immigration and foreign trade.
Only DeSantis is a threat to a Trump win. No point in going after people that have 4% in polling. You fish by going where the fish are.
