Russia evacuates nuclear warheads amid Ukraine incursion
Asia Times ^

Ukraine launched an operation into Russia in the morning of May 22 focused on the outskirts of Belgorod, where the Ukrainians initially took three settlements.

A Russian border crossing in the Belgorod oblast was reportedly destroyed by artillery shelling from the territory of Ukraine. After that, the incursion of troops supported by armored vehicles from Ukraine into the Belgorod oblast began.

This operation had both a political and strategic objective.

The political objective was to embarrass the Russians, who were very slow to respond to the incursion and to take attention away from the huge Ukrainian army failure in Bakhmut.

The strategic objective was to get their hands on nuclear warheads that were stored at location “Object 1150” near the settlement of Grayvoron, home of Russian military unit 25624, part of Russia’s strategic rocket forces.

It is an “Object C,” which is the conventional name for Russia’s central nuclear weapons storage base, Ukrainska Pravda reported. At the last minute, the Russians apparently removed the nuclear warheads, according to both Russian and Ukrainian sources.

The 240mm RD14 nuclear warhead stored at Grayvoron can be fitted to the 3VB11 self-propelled Tyulpan mortar, the largest mortar in the world. The improved nuclear warhead has an explosive power of more than 2 kilotons.

Had Ukraine been able to capture these warheads, they could have mated them to tactical missiles without great difficulty.

Exactly why Russia kept these weapons less than 15 kilometers from the border is not clear, but it was reckless to do so. Their capture could have led to a nuclear conflict.

Wonder if the Biden administration is considering sending billions to Russia to combat this illegal incursion into Russia?

There will also be no USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and many other places.

Russia has 5,977 nukes. How do you propose the US and NATO stop all of them?

Can you explain how it is illegal to counterattack a nation that invaded your nation, and continues to wage war against it?
What is this nonsensical proposition that an attacked country can’t hit back where the aggressor doesn’t want them to? Do you have any idea how dumb that sounds?
Was it illegal in your opinion for the US to invade Okinawa after the Japanese invaded Wake island?

Fake.

Yes. Lack of reason abounds.

It occured to me we have some outraged at the invasion at our southern border, for good reason, yet an invasion of Ukrainian borders for a land and resource grab causing massive death and destruction is a good thing. Thats not a conservative value.

So the Ukrs sent a company of British SAS trained miscreant neonazi “ anti Putin Russians” to seize nuc warheads.

Blowing up village homes, a kindergarten and a grocery store as residents filmed them …..dismounting from US armored vehicles our tax dollars sent to the UKA …..roaming their yards.

And they found “ no warheads”….the Russians “ must have suddenly removed them”. Why were the Russians so careless? ( Wester media spin)

Meanwhile the Russians designated the area as a terror zone (shoot at will) and killed half or more of the “ freedom fighters” before they could skulk back into Ukraine.

You apparently have no knowledge of the MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) doctrine, which has been recognized for the last 60 years or so. In a nutshell, no one really wins, which is in itself a deterrence.
