Millions are told to get ready to evacuate as one of the world's most dangerous volcanoes in Mexico is set to erupt with smoke, ash and molten rock already spewing into the sky grounding planes forcing nearby schools to close

Mexican authorities on Sunday raised the warning level for the Popocatepetl volcano to one step below red alert as smoke, ash and molten rock spewed into the sky posing risks to aviation and far-flung communities below.

The huge volcano that towers above Mexico City is considered one of the most dangerous in the world because some 25 million people live within a 60-mile radius.

Sunday's increased alert level - to 'yellow phase three' - comes a day after two Mexico City airports temporarily halted operations due to falling ash, which also forced 11 villages to cancel school sessions.

Well, thankfully that could never happen in America.

Volcanos aren't sensitive to gender fluidity and aren't Woke or Queer.

Wow. I climbed Popocapetl back in about 1991. It had small steam eruptions back then. It smelled like 10,000 matches being struck under your nose at the same time. In the same trip I also climbed Iztaccíhuatl which is right next to Popo and Orizaba volcano which is a distance away.

Sir... you owe me a new keyboard.

Your comment made me snort my coffee out my nose and spew it, rather gracefully, all over my laptop.

Well done!

That one picture with smoke bellowing out of the volcano eerily reminds me of the ones showing Mt. St. Helens erupting.

Bingo. Volcano ash cool the atmosphere.

Krakatoa 1883

The explosions hurled an estimated 11 cubic miles (45 cubic km) of debris into the atmosphere, darkening skies up to 275 miles (442 km) from the volcano. In the immediate vicinity, the dawn did not return for three days. Ash fell as far away as 3,775 miles (6,076 km) landing on ships to the northwest. Barographs around the globe documented that the shock waves in the atmosphere circled the planet at least seven times. Within 13 days, a layer of sulfur dioxide and other gases began to filter the amount of sunlight able to reach Earth. The atmospheric effects made for spectacular sunsets all over Europe and the United States. Average global temperatures were as much as 1.2 degrees cooler for the next five years.

Well, you are probably correct. The internal stresses released by the Mexican eruption can result is stress changes elsewgere that produce distant eruptions.

If 10 million people are killed in Mexico city, will the cartels keep shipping drugs to America?

Isn’t this the same volcano that blew back in the late 70s causing severe winters up here in the midwest?
