Conservative syndicated columnist Jonah Goldberg said Wednesday on CNN’s “The Lead” that Republican “closet normals on the Hill” want to move beyond former President Donald Trump but are waiting for their voters to do so.
Anchor Jake Tapper said, “Do you think that, assuming that Jack Smith does go forward and bring some sort of charges related to this, do you think that will have any impact whatsoever on Trump’s standing among must be members of Congress, Republican officials and voters?”
Goldberg said, “Those are different constituencies, to be sure. I think there is a possibility, if not one that I think is necessary that I would bet a lot of money on, that the slow accretion of more baggage, more hassles, there’s always something going on with this guy, hits a critical mass point when Republican voters are starting to pay attention to the primaries, which they are not now, and they will say, look, I like the guy’s policies, but we need someone with less baggage, younger, blah, blah, blah. That’s possible. I think for leaders of the party and members of Congress. They’re there psychologically, a lot of them, but not politically because the voters haven’t gone that way yet.
He added, “There are all these closet normals on the Hill who would very much like to move beyond the Trump era, but they can’t until the voters do.”
Tapper said, “Do you want to out them for us right now?”
Goldberg said, “I could guess a lot of them.”

And I do like Ron DeSantis as the governor of Florida, but he doesn't have what it takes to take on Washington. Those people are mean, evil, determined, and they control everything.
This is a pivotal election for America, and if we get it wrong, it's over.
To be clear, Goldberg is right in what the Republicans are waiting on.
Trump should not be left behind by us, they’ll just target his replacement, if that person becomes effective.
I watched the Republicans speak, and under a dozen out of approx 270 mentioned cutting the funding. So, that tells me they want no
Part of cutting the budget of their boys.
.
Fing loser.
Jonah Goldberg is a very early-on Trump-hater so where else does one need to go for objective analysis?
Here’s the dilemma Trump has created for the GOP: He did such an effective job exposing the Washington establishment as a bunch of corrupt, feckless @ssholes that voters are naturally going to distrust any candidate who hasn’t been attacked the way he has been.
For example … Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley must have their homes raided by the Democratic Gestapo before I’d even consider them eligible to run for President.
Try Powerline. /sarc>
Before you talk about the general election, DeSantis has to win the nomination. As of today he’s losing to Trump by 72.8%
In the early days, I liked Jonah. Met him and his mother
several times while in a group of FReepers.
He was a decent sort in those days. We were anti-Clinton
antics, and they both were as well.
Over time both of them went South. I was sad to see it, but
reality is reality and Jonah has been anti-Trump all the
way.
Now he tries to explain what “normal” Republicans want,
and it’s just too self-serving. It’s what he wants so bad
he can taste it.
He never got Trump. He never grasped what he had done for
the nation.
Look, Cruz, Levin, and Humpty Dumpty (Glenn Beck) finally
came around. Jonah never did.
If they’re hiding in a closet Johan, they ain’t “normal.” More like gutless-wonders, which the GOP is full of.
Yes, we realize they want us Trump supporters to disappear so things can return to “normal”. Normal graft, normal gravy train, and the normal way of doing business in D.C. Share the power between the political parties all at the expense of the voters.
That's why the GOP will never be reformed. Too many people willing to hold their nose and vote for the better of two evils. In the end, you still end up with evil. After having voted for George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, McCain, and Romney, just to get someone with an R behind their name into office, I will no longer compromise my values, and vote for someone who pretends to be Conservative, only to have them stab me in the back once they get in office. I'd rather sit at home, and be able to look myself in the mirror the day after the election.

Jonah Goldberg knows what the Surrender Monkeys are thinking - as they talk to him at Brett Baier’s Country Club.
They aren’t just that, they are the one’s who helped undermine 2020, actively or through inaction.
Exactly. The kind of republican who is content to let the democrats rule, and do all the work, while they attend parties with the Heritage Foundation and get invited to meet with lobbyists at vacation spots.
“Normals”?? On “the Hill”???
There’s no such thing. The ‘Hill’ has been completely overrun by criminals.
They do NOT represent the American people who are paying them to be represented.
Whatever THEY want is contrary to the will of the American citizens.
It’s not that Jonah is brain damaged, it’s just that he has never actually done anything besides run his mouth and his keyboard. Never had a real job, never had a real skill, or a real accomplishment in the real world.
Closet democrats is what he means.
Goldberg is not a conservative.
