California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday announced a $60 million agreement to welcome salmon and sturgeon back to the Yuba River for the first time more than a century.
Together with state, federal and local officials, the governor unveiled a landmark agreement that will reopen miles of habitat to multiple fish species. The plans will also enable the return of the spring-run Chinook salmon to their native Yuba River habitat in the Central Valley, officials noted.

remove the dams
rochester ny has salmon...but eat them nd you die.........
Worthy cause but Ca is broke.
Parts of the Sierra Mountains have 600% of regular snowfall. Between the massive rain earlier, and the current amount of snowmelt, Kalifornia could conserve tremendous amounts of water for the dry years. But, noooooo. Kalifornia continues to empty reservoirs and tear down as many dams as possible.
Also, there is another massive body of water just off the coast of Kalifornia. It is so massive, it qualifies as an ocean. Using the latest Israeli desalinization methods, Kalifornia could have unlimited, clean water. Israel has so much clean water, they export it to their neighbors. The Kalifornia democRATS just want a permanent crisis, the permanent drought.
Reduce the overly protected seals. (Hint: they are not endangered)
Otherwise a waste of money.

WASTE of MONEY-—
HAVEN’T been in that river for OVER a CENTURY
SALMON RETURN TO WHERE THEY WERE SPAWNED to LAY THEIR EGGS.
THIS IS ANOTHER NEWSOM BOONDOGGLE
NO SEALS IN YUBA RIVER
This had me confused, because I quickly read “Newsom” as “Newsmax.”
No, not a waste of money. ... and the Yuba River is in the North Sacramento Valley and foothills, not the ‘Central Valley... the Yuba ends at Marysville as a tributary to the Feather River...
Introducing salmon cost 60 mill?
Will the salmon get their own smart phones and $1200 each?
The problems with the salmon is mostly the overdevelopment at the mouths of the rivers. The fish won’t return if the river if the delta is destroyed.
WOW! I just looked up and found that Israel sells desalinated water for $0.41 per cubic meter. That’s cheaper than California!
That is probably the cost of deepening the channels... the river was silted over in gold rush days... it’s long been a goal to deepen the channels of the Feather and Yuba Rivers... Not only will that help in restoring habitat it will make river navigation more attractive for river boats, etc..
If they are African salmon, reparations worth millions
264 gallons of water in a cubic meter. That’s heavy.

Buying the eyed eggs and planting them in a new hatchery might cost $5 million. $10,000 for the starter eggs and the rest for the hatchery facility.
Another $5 million goes to explaining that birds, seals, sea lions love to eat salmon going down the river and returning. So most of the first release never returned 4 years later. And that’s why they need another 60 million - to tied them over a few 8 year cycles
Oh what happened to the other 50 mil? The usual - salaries, administrative overhead, marble toilets in the hatchery offices, vacations, international fact finding tours, gourmet meals in the lunch room cooked by 5 star chefs - all the necessary stuff you understand.
I’d rather do this than any number of silly things Newsom has spent money on.
Fine idea. I’m having baked salmon for dinner tonight. More is better, and maybe cheaper.
